Yes, the irony was not lost on me, but fwiw, by all accounts he was very much in the "lift the ban" camp among the brethren.

He was relatively left as far as apostles go. He was quite the contrast to Ezra Taft Benson.

      • I love HBB. I had that talk on cassette and listened to it many times on my mission.

        • Wise words.

would love to be a fly on the wall when he and ETB were inevitably clashing.

We've had people who really seemed excited to vote for him. I'm also curious what those people think now.

              • Lol. Stop doing fusnik's heavy lifting for him.

                • Can you link some of the apparently many posts from all of the folks who are super excited to vote for DeSantis? I'm not talking about folks who would rather vote for him over Trump. I'm talking about those who have been "defending" him and/or "really seemed excited to vote for him".

I've seen a lot of that on CB. But I don't recall seeing a lot of that here.

I don't worry about the people who are excited to vote for DeSantis nearly as much as the people who are willing to vote for him. They're the same morons who voted for Trump because they couldn't bring themselves to vote for Hillary. As bad a candidate as Hillary was, she wouldn't have broke the country like Trump did.

That's fair. I'm just saying I don't think this is a board full of people "excited" about DeSantis.

There is one person here who is betraying his libertarian principles, who is hoping that DeSantis wins the nomination. Other than him, I get the impression that there's only a handful of people who would hold their noses and vote for him.

We must not rest until we root out and publicly shame these people!

                            • Shame away.

Of the 3 currently-declared D candidates, I will vote for none of them.

Of the 8 currently-declared R candidates, I would consider voting for any of them except Trump, Perry Johnson, and Vivek, who both want to pardon Trump. I like some of Vivek's other ideas but wanting to pardon Trump is disqualifying for me. I am an unrepentant never-Trumper, never-Hillaryer, and never-Bidener..

If the election were held today and the candidates were Biden (D), pretty much any of the declared (R) candidates not named above, and various randos from various rando parties, I would probably vote for the R, which includes DeSantis. <ProgressiveLogic>Obviously this means I must agree with every action, policy, position, word, and even every thought those R candidates have.</ProgressiveLogic>

If the election were held today and the candidates were Biden (D), Trump (R), and various randos from various rando parties, I would vote for a rando or write in Mitt Romney.

If the election were held today and the candidates were some reasonably-rational-and-not-completely-batshit-crazy D, Trump (R), and various randos from various rando parties, I would consider voting D for president for the first time in my life. I have voted D for non-presidential offices but never for President.

Based on the current political climate in the USA and the general level of idiocy amongst my fellow Americans, I think the most likely outcome of all the above scenarios is that I write in Mitt.

This is a pretty good summary of where I'm at as well. Still on the never-Trump train. But also on the never-again Biden train at this point.

I remember getting a chuckle in my US history class when my teacher told us that one of the highest write-in vote-getters in every presidential election was Mickey Mouse. I thought "what a waste - just vote for the person you like best. Done."

The last few years have taught me that it isn't quite that simple. And it's very possible for both predominant parties to nominate someone who it is untenable for me to vote for. So a write-in might be the right answer.

Of course, even Mickey Mouse has fallen out of favor as a politician at this point.
