Barack and Michelle Obama both knocked it out of the park at the DNC tonight. Especially Barack. He is the most gifted political orator of our generation."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Gifted yes, but he's also full of crap. He has an absolute gift of demonizing his opponents while also decrying the contentious state of affairs today. Brilliant sleight of hand.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostBarack and Michelle Obama both knocked it out of the park at the DNC tonight. Especially Barack. Which is why his presidency was largely impotent once he lost the supermajority in the senate. But I agree with Lebowski, he’s an incredible speech giver.Originally posted by USUC View Post

Even if he was brilliantly full of crap like USUC said, he knew how to portray himself above the fray. He motivated people with lofty ideals. Every politician divides the electorate with the policies they work for; he did it more respectfully than others.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostBarack and Michelle Obama both knocked it out of the park at the DNC tonight. His presidency seems like a lifetime ago."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Ha. That’s a highly cynical and predictable response. But I’m still right.Originally posted by USUC View Post

Obama is a great example of someone that can inspire people but also be a lousy executive. He was very ineffective in being president. Biden on the other hand is a crappy orator but he was actually effective as an executive, even when his effectiveness was hurtful to the economy or other things."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. what can I say? I'm principled and consistent!
Of course he is a generational orator. He was also divisive and continued in concentrating the power of the executive.
What's funny to me are people in the GOP base who saw McCain and Romney lose to a once in a lifetime phenomenon in Obama, but also saw GOP gains in almost every state. In whole, they have never had that much power before. And they came to the conclusion that they were losing and needed Trump.

Obama got the Affordable Care Act passed. That is more long-lasting and substantial than anything Biden has accomplished.Originally posted by Moliere View PostObama is a great example of someone that can inspire people but also be a lousy executive. Here is a response about the Obama speeches by Jim Geraghty of the National Review. For context, he has been extremely critical of other DNC speakers, especially Clinton and Bernie.
You can completely disagree with most of his policy positions (as I do), but if you are being honest and objective you have to admit the man has a gift. Supposedly he has told the Harris campaign that he is willing to go on the road and do whatever they ask in the next two months. That is a big deal.Last night was a reminder of what an astronomically talented orator Barack Obama was and is. A lot of Republicans have convinced themselves that John McCain and Mitt Romney were turkeys for failing to reach 270 electoral votes against him. But a generational communicator, plus the excitement surrounding the first black Democratic nominee, plus the Wall Street collapse and onset of the Great Recession would have been a steep challenge for even a Republican nominee as gifted as Ronald Reagan to overcome."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Anyone who is being objective would agree with the above. Which is why it was so disappointing he allowed his campaign to stoop so low in 2012 and continued that tone in his second term. I think the second Obama term was extremely damaging to the psyche and tone of American politics, if not in actual policy.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHere is a response about the Obama speeches by Jim Geraghty of the National Review.
