if you can’t see the difference between peaceful political protest and knowingly (at best) sponsoring objectively false and clearly defamatory testimony accusing the governor of taking money from the sinaloa cartel from the floor of the legislature, you might be an even bigger dice loading dipshit than was widely believed. “pearl clutching”—what a dumb dumb.

Yes, by all means, let’s mock anyone who attempts to express some empathy following a tragedy.

But why stop with shootings? Let’s stamp out all vestiges of humanity, regardless of the tragedy.

Don't be a bitch. Real thoughts and prayers are fine. Politicians' thoughts and prayers are the target.

Don’t be a bitch. It wasn’t exactly clear you were pointing the finger exclusively at politicians.

Research shows an AR-15-style rifle has been used to kill at least 226 people in mass shootings since 2012.

OMG, that is 22.6 people per year! That is like the number of people killed by lightning each year (28), or the number of people killed by toasters every year (45), or by falling coconuts (150/year), or by champagne corks (24/year). We totally need to ban AR-15 style rifles (and coconut trees, champagne, and toasters).

It is woefully tone deaf to compare accidental deaths with the terror of someone wilfully gunning down people with a consumer assault rifle. Maybe you are just trolling, but even still it's terribly inappropriate, and unwarranted.

I agree with tooblue about Ted’s post, but at the same time, the extremely low numbers make it terribly difficult to reduce the numbers. I’d be fine banning AR-15s, bringing back the Brady bill in general, banning high capacity magazines. It would save a life or two per year, but talk of taking action to eliminate these events is pretty futile. If we got home break-in or muggings down to these numbers, we would consider them virtually eliminated.

Banning AR-15s and other scary looking guns wouldn't eliminate (or really put any kind of significant dent in) mass killing. Really it is a problem with creating gun free zones which makes it easy for the mentally ill to prey on the defenseless. So the real solution is to eliminate the mentally ill (or actually keep any kind of weapon out of their hands) and/or don't create laws that prohibit people from defending themselves from these mentally ill people with weapons. Only the guns that Alec Baldwin has available to him kill people without someone pulling the trigger apparently.

Aren't you ashamed of yourself for repeating these dumb Sean Hannity-issue arguments against gun control? There's no way you can actually believe them, can you? Fox News never explains why gun bans and gun control in other countries effectively has eliminated tragedies in those places. Guess we love our hypothetical Second Amendment and the ability to fantasize about killing intruders (that somehow corresponds with never putting any kind of reasonable limits on obtaining weapons) more than we care about children.

                      • Yeah, let's just eliminate mental illness and give everyone more guns. Great plan!

Seems easier than trying to abolish the 2nd amendment, Dude.

Background checks and abolishing weapons of war does not require a constitutional amendment. But it sure would put a dent in the numbers in our insanely tragic and needless gun fatalities.

                            • kinda funny how precious ar-15s are to gun lovers. i'd get rid of them if i could just to piss them off. plenty of other guns that can bring down big game.

I am all for better background checks. Of course, the government sucks at doing them and the enforcement.
