    Thanks.

I enjoyed Biden's speech. It seemed like a genuine attempt at unity and civility. If it wasn't genuine, at least it wasn't deliberately divisive. I had my kids watch last night. It's good for them to see the President not publicly being an asshole. It was also nice knowing that afterwards he wasn't going to hop on Twitter and go ALL CAPS crazy on a critic or retweet an absurd compliment from a white supremacist.

It's really too bad we couldn't have a debate about the size of his inauguration crowd vs 4 years ago. I hate the pandemic.

Also, it's lovely to see a person acknowledge more than 50% of the country by noting that there are differences of opinion. That acknowledgment alone felt astounding in comparison to the last four years. No need for phrases that begin with "many people are saying" or "everyone agrees that", or "I've been hearing". What a concept.

The stink of the last four years is going to linger.

How insane that we had an insecure 11-year old that would make a concerted effort to fabricate a crowd size-- down to instructing a photographer to photoshop the wide angle photos to add more people. A normal person would have said, 'oh my crowd was smaller? Interesting. Oh well BACK TO THE MOST CONSEQUENTIAL JOB ON EARTH."

Right? If he was bizarro Trump he would have immediately started shitting on the fly-over states, praising 'beautiful Georgia and Arizona for finally coming around,' bragging about 81 million people voting for him, etc etc etc. If Trump wasn't a worst-case scenario, I'm having a hard time imagining who would be worse, other than like Stephen Miller or Kris Kobach or David Duke.

So is Trump banned permanently from twitter or are they going to lift it at some point?

It's 'indefinite,' so they definitely could, but I think everybody is noticing how much better everything is when the world's biggest asshole doesn't have a giant megaphone. I think I read that misinformation on Twitter went down like 79% just since he's been banned.

I voted for Biden and am glad he's president. I would have voted against Trump in almost any circumstance, but I didn't have to since I liked the opposing candidate.

I think Biden is the perfect candidate for the post-Trump and post-Obama era. Let's remember the ridiculousness of the Obama era, especially as it pertains to how the media covered him. The dude was given every pass and then some. Obama was really a pretty average president but he had such an aura about him and he was more divisive than most previous serious presidential candidates (of course a lot of that divisiveness came in the form of racism but Obama ran on a fairly liberal agenda for the time). Trump was the result of the ridiculousness of the Obama era and also the result of one of the worst candidates of all time in Hillary Clinton. Trump swung the pendulum back to complete opposite side and then some but most people liked Trump at first because he fired back at the media that didn't really do their job, or do a good job at it, during the Obama years. Trump of course continued with the rhetoric and I think it even got worse as he went along and certainly as he felt the jaws of defeat begin to clench around his obese body.

I also think that the whole "woke" movement has also played a big part in the swings of extremism. It's gone both ways now with the woke left threatening free speech and the woke right turning to fascism. I think people are now tired of being woke and literally just want to live their lives and be at peace after what we've all been through int eh past decade. Even most Democrats see the destruction caused by the cancel culture and seem to be pulling back from that ridiculousness. I hope that the extreme wokeness is gone, or at least will be gone from the right as well. The fringe people will always be there but I'm hoping that group gets smaller.

Biden is perfect for this moment. He's an old white guy that has a fairly moderate agenda but wants to keep certain things normalized that should be normalized, like gay marriage. He's likely a one term president so there isn't much incentive to lie his way to more power, although I'm sure he'll play politics like all politicians. He the "meh" candidate that will cleanse the palate of America and give us a fresh start in 2024.

tl;dr I voted for Biden and think his presidency will be boring, but we need that.

Biden gave a COVID-19 address today and I bet his ratings aren’t even that high.

Day 2, we have our first "come on, man" from Biden in response to a media question. The media's job is to press the president. Lets hope we see this consistently.

Agreed. It’s awesome we have a president who will have regular press briefs and won’t threaten the press or call them enemies.

But they definitely need to be on his ass. It’s their job.

Biden appears to be actually working. What a change.

You know- I'm not buying the 'Trump is a result of Obama' excuse anymore. President Jeb Bush could have just as easily been 'a result of Obama' if more people had realized what a fuck-up Trump was before he won the primaries.

Agreed, it is a dumb excuse. A Trump like candidate has been brewing for decades. The uneducated white male standard of living has stagnated since the mid 70’s. Progress has left them behind. They lashed out in 2016 for a candidate that represented them. Trump caught lightning in a bottle.
