The GOP'ers control everything now so they have the chance to pass a new immigration bill as well as a voting bill (making things like voter ID the law of the land which has already been challenged in various states upheld by the supreme court). If it is a difficult process for agricultural and food service employers should talk to their congress representatives to get what they need so they can hire the temporary or permanent immigrate workers they need. If your representative is a Dem like mine then tell them to stop playing politics and get behind immigration bill. Remind them how how they lost the senate and the white house in this last election because they are not listening to what the people want.

Stephen Miller has done some subtle things to shut down legal immigration.

Suggesting to “go apply for a green card” seems pretty ignorant to me. For one, I don’t think you can do it without leaving the country again if you are here illegally. Second, your chances of getting a green card are near zero is you don’t have a sponsoring citizen spouse or citizen family member.

And yes, while I did have a green card at one point and went through the torturous process, having a spouse sponsor me, I can’t state with authority the processes for the situations above because they are so complex. I can’t imagine a non-native English speaker trying to figure it out.

Yes, it's ignorant, My mother in law is kind of funny. Of course a Trump supporter but was complaining to my wife the other day about how ridiculous it is that this husband of a daughter of a lady in her ward is having such a hard time being allowed to enter the country. Totally oblivious to the fact that it's excruciatingly hard to come live here legally for most people. But when it hits closer to home or affects a church member then she cares. My wife kindly reminded her that with Trump this kind of thing is sure to get even more like that.

Why would the trump administration go after the undocumented/illegal agricultural workers... at least at first? They already stated that the yuge number of criminals that the Biden administration let walk in to this country would be the first priority. Of course, after noticing that undocumented/illegal immigrates are being deported one would assume that the undocumented/illegal agricultural and food service workers will apply for work visas (green cards) so they will no longer be undocumented and illegal. If they don't make the effort to change their status from illegal to legal then maybe they should be deported for being stupid. The last time I checked it was illegal to hire undocumented workers in the US as per the 1986 immigration reform and control act so if that was enforced employers would have a very good incentive to sign their green card application. (Sometimes you have to give an incentive to obey the law.) What is absurd is Bidin/Harris creating this problem in the first place and letting between 40% and 70% of the people working these jobs clearly break the law as well as their employers (on top of the yuge number of criminals they let into this country). Maybe the reason it is higher in California is employers don't have to pay "brown people" the government mandated high minimal wage?

Stephen Miller whom it appears is slated to be put in charge of immigration matters has written and said plenty over the years to give the idea he opposes all immigration, including legal. During covid he even got INS to tell all foreign students to immediately leave the country if their college had gone to an online format. That got enough pushback from other Republicans that they pulled back. He's an extremist. Also amazing these illegals don't just walk into a government office and come out with a green card. I mean, it takes like 20 minutes, right?

I'm personally aware that the percentage of trash collectors in California who undocumented is also very high. Food service industry is another. All plum jobs we white folks are clamoring for. This, using the military to round up immigrants will be interesting. Stephen Miller and the Trump admin have and will work to curtail legal immigration as well. A lot of right wing influencers complain about immigration reforms in 1960s that opened immigration for more than just Europeans. Stephen Miller wants America to be more white.
