I guess I will concede to following politics less than many of you (which I already knew), but if you asked me for the accomplishments (outside of being elected/appointed) of Pete Buttigieg, Ted Cruz, Bernie Sanders, Marco Rubio, Amy Klobuchar, and 90% of other failed presidential candidates I wouldn't be able to point to specific legislative accomplishments, and I don't think it gives me much of a handicap in deciding who I choose to support.

Of course you can’t point to significant accomplishments of Ted Cruz. That’s the point. Kamala is the Ted Cruz of the democrats, except she got the golden ticket.Originally posted by Clark Addison View Post

There’s a reason those people never make it through the primary. There’s a reason Kamala didn’t make it even to the first ballots cast in the primary back in 2020."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. She championed the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act of 2018... even though there hasn't been a lynching since 1981 (even though Jussie Smollett was almost lynched around that same time as this bill). But it is "largely symbolic bill aimed to recognize and apologize for historical governmental failures to prevent lynching in the country."Originally posted by Moliere View Post
What did she accomplish as VP or senator? Any significant bills that she championed that got passed?

What were Obama's accomplishments before he was elected? Bush2? Clinton? Bush 1? I am sure there were some, but I can't think of them off the top of my head (though being governor is a little different because successfully governing a state can be considered an accomplishment that translates to the presidency). But going back the last several presidencies, were there specific legislative accomplishments that you can point to and say "Ah, that's what really propelled them to the office"?Originally posted by Moliere View Post

I'll again concede that I spend much of my life ignoring politics so maybe I am blanking on some things, but I think the president over the last 30 years who has run most on his accomplishments, such as they were, was Trump.

If this story is true then as VP Kamala Harris was involved in a coup... That pretty significant.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

If This Story Is True, Then Joe Biden Was Deposed in a Coup
If this story is true, and it’s a big what if, then Joe Biden has been deposed in a coup that’s reminiscent of banana republics. The problem is the sourcing: the story appears to be written by Seymour Hersh. Hersh isn’t a fake news peddler, though his stories often rely on anonymous sources, so much cannot be verified. For those who don’t know, Hersh has written for The New Yorker and The New York Times. He won a Pulitzer for his reporting on the Mai Lai Massacre during the Vietnam War. Hersh may have a liberal bias, but he’s not overall a conspiracy theorist, at least not in the vein of someone like Louise Mensch, a former member of the UK Parliament, who went totally off the deep end during the Russian collusion hoax.
Hersh’s pervasive use of anonymous sources has given many an editor heartburn. Still, this story also is grounded since Joe Biden was facing pressure from all angles to step aside following his disastrous June 27 debate. His polling began to crater, placing states like Virginia in play. Donors withheld their cash; Hill Democrats poured out, calling the president to step aside. The dam finally broke during the Republican National Convention. Still, Biden remained entrenched even though he was looking at a Jimmy Carter-style loss if he stayed. At this point, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Hakeem Jeffries increased their campaign to nudge the president into quitting. Barack Obama was already working behind the scenes to force Biden to exit the race, which brings us to this piece of palace intrigue: Obama called Joe saying that he got the go-ahead from Kamala to invoke the 25th Amendment. Hersh noted that Obama dropped this bomb at breakfast time on July 21. Hours later, Biden would quit the race:

It is safe to say that NRA is not endorsing Kamala Harris...
If Kamala doesn't get her way then she will just take executive action.

Oh no, you're sharing Dave Rubin's now. He was rooting for Vichy French to win the elections. He is really dumb.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post
Well, as senator, she did accomplish becoming more leftist (as per her voting record) than Bernie Sanders... That is quite the accomplishment.
And as VP...

Well, I'm not sure that lynchings would be something to downplay. They had suspected lynchings since then.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post

But it is "largely symbolic bill aimed to recognize and apologize for historical governmental failures to prevent lynching in the country."
"Jill Collen Jefferson, a lawyer and founder of Julian, a civil rights organization named after the late civil rights leader Julian Bond, has been conducting her own research into lynching in Mississippi and found that at least eight Black people have been lynched in the state since 2000. She began her research into lynchings across the country in 2017 and focused on Mississippi, her home state, in 2019. In each case of lynching she discovered, Jefferson said the police ruled the deaths suicides, but the families of the deceased said their loved ones were lynched.
There is a pattern to how these cases are investigated,” Jefferson said. “When authorities arrive on the scene of a hanging, it’s treated as a suicide almost immediately. The crime scene is not preserved. The investigation is shoddy. And then there is a formal ruling of suicide, despite evidence to the contrary. And the case is never heard from again unless someone brings it up.”
There is no more blatant form of racial intimidation against a Black person that one can use than that of a noose. The practice of lynching was used against enslaved Black people, but it was an especially popular form of violence against Black Americans after slavery ended. It is considered a more dated form of violence today, but a story in the Washington Post reports that the practice of lynching never truly stopped. Jill Collen Jefferson, a lawyer and founder of Julian, a civil rights organization named after the late civil rights leader Julian Bond, has been conducting her own research into lynching in Mississippi and found that at least eight Black people have been lynched in the state since 2000.
Of course in the late 90s James Byrd was dragged to death by Neo Nazis in East Texas for miles until only his torso was left. So I guess he wasn't lynched, but not ideal.
Unsure why you'd have a problem with the legislation.

So people bitch about Biden's stability and his being enabled by the democratic establishment are now bitching about Harris pushing him because she might have threatened to use legal means for the good of the country.
Good grief.
