Is there any chance that we can have a separate draft for husband and wife 'teams?' Not that I could ever hope to keep up with Faith, but I think it would be better for both of our motivation if we were not subtracting our totals from each other and netting minuscule relative mile gains. It is way more fun to run with Faith knowing that we are doubling our efforts by working together rather than wiping each other out. Those are my two cents.

That's a good point, and I had given some thought to the husband/wife thing, but not really in that way. I thought it would be kind of funny to see a husband and wife trash talking each other if they ended up on different teams. But from a motivation standpoint, I can see what you mean.

Maybe we can have a couples draft after the individual one. Thoughts, anyone?

I have talked to Mrs. HFN about joining and doing the challenge. She has been looking for something to motivate her since her half-marathon. However I am not sure I want her to sign up and invade my private space here.

Don't worry about it, despite my wife's genuine affection for the CUF'ers she has met, she doesn't invade my space and I don't hers. This doctrine has been explained in a recent Church video:

You're just afraid we'll think she's prettier and more popular than you are.

This would be my preferred option. Also, faith and my teaching schedules begin in full very soon. Our summer schedules are much more accommodating for exercise, so our winter efforts will probably not meet our summer levels... but faith is also extremely competitive, so who knows for sure?

WHy dont we just link the spouses and require the choosing coach to forfeit his
                  next pick?

we could let the couples decide if they wanted to be linked or not.

If you are doing this for charity, your concern is a non-issue. Every mile counts.

If you are doing this to win and beat others, then I would say you have a very serious problem on your hands. I wish you the best of luck resolving this.

Well, I guess my problem with that would be that one of the spouses could be high-mileage, and the other more moderate-mileage. And with the next two picks, the other captain can take two high-mileage individuals. Maybe we say that if a captain picks a couple, the other captain's next pick has to be a couple as well.

I think you're right, we should let couples decide if they even care to be linked.

What if he's doing it for both? Nothing wrong with having some fun while raising money for charity.

That's up to the captains. My guess is all pariciapting couples but for one or two are likely to be in the current distance challenge and, if so, they have a good track record, can be linked if they choose, and the captains can figure how to fit them into thier plans. IOW, a high milegae output married to a slug like me would be a mid level pick. By contrast, PAC and Mrs PAC would go pretty high.

ANother possibility is we give each captain two picks every turn and require that linked couples be taken together.

plus I think increased competion will increase miles.

Have fun regardless of which team you are on and accrue miles for charity. That is going to be my plan, anyway.

I will say that SHW and I are going to have completely separate mileage profiles due to our respective fitness levels (she did have a baby a few months ago). So it might not make sense to pick couples. I don't mind having my wife on the other team as long as it's not a one-on-one battle. Smack around the bedroom is fine anyway.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.
