Well, Garmins and cadence sensors are nice, but neither of us has one. If you trust us, we can just use reasonable estimates. Cash is tight right now. Just took a daughter down to UA, where they jacked the out-of-state tuition an extra 4 grand, then added an additional $500 surtax for the semester without telling us. On the way home Saturday, my 'check engine' light started blinking and the car started bucking and running rough. Bad coil on #5 cylinder, they tell me.

Oh, please don't get one on my behalf. I trust you and Bella, especially after your fine work in the current challenge (albeit for the other teamOriginally posted by mtnbiker View PostWell, Garmins and cadence sensors are nice, but neither of us has one. ). I was just curious because I will eventually enter the biker - wait, cyclist - ranks.

I found a Cateye bike computer with a rear wheel distance sensor and a cadence sensor for $34 last year at a local bike shop. When I got the garmin I kept the Cateye on the bike, mostly for use while on the trainer.
As to people using the trainer for the challenge, I think most people that have a trainer have a good idea how much ground they would cover based on their exertion level. I would think mileage estimates based on time are fine.

I could be in trouble for this challenge. I just found out that I'll probably be spending a lot of this fall and winter in the Maritime Provinces. That doesn't bode well for a guy who hates treadmills.

Sign me up. When we get started I'll have to change my icon to something Ratt related. Will the RATT Challenge commence Tuesday, September 1? It had better, as with the Distance Challenge ending at midnight the day before, I need something to work for or just looking at the barrel of New York Super Fudge Chunk in my freezer will increase my girth by a couple of hectares. Since I haven't heard anything from either captain I've been having grade school flashbacks of which captain was going to get stuck with me--crap, right field, again?

Aristides and I are in, and I don't care if we are on the same team or not. Actually, I'd probably do better if we were on opposite teams.
And, I'm assuming I will be a last round pick if you go by the current challenge, but I totally forgot about that until I read this thread and actually do have miles I can report if it isn't against the rules to report them so late in the game.
Finally, to the captain who underestimates me. . . . be warned! :-P

I'm in. I believe danimal is too. What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

When will the teams be announced? It seems like there should have been a draft by now, or something. And have we decided on the rules?Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Unfortunately, real life keeps getting in the way. If the teams aren't ready to go by then, I would say everyone just start doing whatever it is that you do on Sept 1, and we'll apply miles to teams as soon as they are decided.
