Average is probably 122-125. So you are playing above average courses in regards to difficulty. Also with you only posting 6 rounds it is most likely only counting your lowest 1 or 2 rounds towards your handicap.

Also if the 79 was on any of the courses in the 130s your handicap on that day was probably only a 2 or a 3 and carries more weight than the others.

The 79 was on the 125 course, but that's still showing as my best adjusted round.

I actually think the average slope rating they work off of is 116 or 117. Therefor the differential will be less on any course with a slope rating of 117 or more. I will go look it up to give an example.

Edit: I loaded a handicap of 16 into a slope rating of 116 and 130.

The handicap on the slope rating of 116 was 16. On the slpe rating of 130, the handicap converted to a 18.

Therefor if you shoot 18 over on a slope rating or 130, it will show your differential at 16.

        • Also, you need to remember a handicap (or index) isn't an average of what you shoot, it is an indicator of what you have the potential to shoot. So if your 79 is on one if the harder courses, it will send the index lower.

When my Index was higher, and I shot a round in the low 80's, the scoring computer asked if I made an error because the score posted was outside the normal range for someone with that index.

          • FINALLY!!!!!

Shot a 77 today even with two double bogeys. 39 front 38 back.

No, it wasn't on the putt putt course at Lagoon.

            • Went out again with the boys. I shot an 84. The youngest son shot a 98 and the older boy shot an 88. Ha! It's good to be king again in my house.

I just wish my kid would make an effort to be consistent. When he puts his mind to it, he can play really well. But I made a promise to myself when the first child was born that I would never push any of my kids too hard in anything unless they asked me to do that. It's tough, as I wish I had his ability or he at least had my desire to get better. Perhaps he's really the one going about it the best way, as he says he plays golf (and any other sport) for the fun of it?

              • Dropped an 83 today.

11 over for the round. (6 of those on 3 Par 5's...sheesh)

                Was a good round.

Congrats on the great improvement in your game. I am looking forward to hearing about your first round in the 70's. If you get there like I did, there will be several occasions you get close but blow it on the last hole or two. Then all of sudden you break through then it becomes a lot more frequent.

                  • I had my second ever worst round today (since keeping track of my handicap). Nothing was going right. I had the absolute worst 3 holes in a round ever. I took 31 shots on 3 holes. I lost to the Tick by 27 strokes. I give up.

Nice job. I've been consistently close to bogey the last month or so, my game's never been better. My irons have always been good. The last few weeks my driver's really been coming around. Then a couple days ago I take my boy out with me and I shank over half my iron shots. @#$%!@#$%!!!

I am battling the consitency bug myself. Today I fired a smooth 51 on the front and then settled down to a boring 38 on the back.

                        • Yowzers. 48+45 today for a 93. My worst score in a couple years. I can't remember the last time I didn't break 90, actually. I hit 2 of 14 fairways today--major driver issues. That should help even out the ol' handicap.

                          • The last two times out I have played fairly well. I hit about 75 balls at the range the other night and was hitting all my shots. So I expected a decent round yesterday. Wrong. Shot a 48 on the front 9. I started off really well but I ran into trouble on a par 3 where I had to take a drop. Went 3 over on that one only to follow it up with a quad thanks to a lost ball. I was on full monkey tilt. We decided to play best ball captain's choice on the back 9, our cart against the other in our foursome and I got smoked by about 5 strokes. One of the guys holed out from the fairway for an eagle.

Just when I felt like I was bringing my game together too. I was Tiger off the tee. I am slicing it off the tee. Then the next hole I am pulling the ball straight left. I was so frustrated. By about the 15th hole I had mailed it in.

I like to blame a big part of it on rhythm. Yesterday the course was packed. I think the first 80˚ day in two months was responsible. So I was waiting at the tee box and on approach shots all day. It's hard enough to keep it together for 18, but especially when you're playing so slowly

                            • What do you guys think of this? I think it's a cool idea, and I hope we see it sometime.

What is the very longest a par 5 could be and average par for pro's? I'm not talking about a long, tough par standard type of par 5 with trees and fairway bunkers and water and tough pin placement.

Everything else about the hole being as easy as possible. Wide open fairways, the widest fairway in any professional golf hole. Perfectly flat. Big, fat, perfectly flat green, built to play slow so they can fire at the pin or putt it aggressively.

I think it's not unreasonable to think pro's could average par on a 1,000 yard par 5 with these condition.

First three shots go anywhere from 850 or so on the low end up to 950 or so on the high end? Then you have 50 to 150 yards to get up and down on the easiest green in the world.

                              • New handicaps came out today for the SCGA (Southern California Golf Association) and I am at a 16.7.

I have had a pretty good run as of late.
