TM gets ridiculous, they release a new driver or new set of irons it seems 5 times a year...but they have a huge presence so everyone buys them.

Anyway...i'm no expert so just my opinions here, but you can't go wrong with mizuno's offerings. They have stuff for good players (the MP line) and stuff for average players...probably not so much for absolute beginners. The MX line has been solid for a while now, with the MX-23s and MX-25s as some of the standouts. I haven't hit the mx-200s but they look like a continuation of their game-improvement line, with good forgiveness and a not-too-insane offset combined with the feel you get from grain-flow forged steel.

I'd say they are definitely worth swinging. If you like them but don't have the money, try some earlier iterations of the MX line. There's not THAT much technological advancement going on in irons, so even a lightly used few-years old set will be just fine.

Cool, thanks. From what I understand, the MX 200s are meant to replace the MX 23s.. I think. Anyway I think I'll give them a look.

I don't think I want to play with you again if you get rid of your computer clubs.

Don't worry, I can still connect manually to the internet when we play.

Get in on this one. Just a few hours left on this countdown sale. This is a screaming deal for an Odyssey White Hot XG Marxman putter. Available in Blade, Mallet, and Mini in various lengths. $49.95. That's a ridiculous price for these putters. Just bought a 35" Blade for my dad and I am getting a 34" Mini. These are really solid putters and a nice alternative to the two ball.

Also, free UPS ground shipping for orders over $99 and no sales tax outside of California. $99.98 shipped. These putters retailed originally for $169.99. Golf Galaxy currently has the mallet on sale for $139.99 and the mini that I bought for $149.99. I figure if I hate it, I can sell it and probably make money on it.

LOL, I may have told this story, but here goes anyway. The Country Clubs and the public courses have what they call 8 man teams. They play each other in a season long match.

Many, many years ago the club champ was a heavy drinker. During one of these 8 man matches he passed out going down number 17 fairway and they had to haul him in to the club house. He tied the match because he was two up going into 17.

LOL, you were losing to a guy who was so drunk he passed out on you.

                • Today's Report: 41+39=80

The new driver giveth and taketh away. Some of the best drives of my life, and I got bit a couple of times with poor swings. Overall I'm getting used to it. I've been a power fader or straight my whole life, but with this new draw bias built in I'm swinging freer, and adding big yardage to my drives. With just modest swings I'm flying 250, and coming to rest 265+. It's a lot easier to par with 9's and wedges, than it is with 7's and 6's. Even with the 80, I still left 5 shots on the course, and am optimistic, that tomorrow I'll come in with a sub 78.

BTW... If you're a slow player, wake up and notice that nobody enjoys standing still for 45 seconds while you stand over your putt.

                  • I am playing in a tournament tomorrow so today I played 9 holes for a practice round at Spanish Oaks.

                    Hole 1- par
Hole 2- par (in to about 30mph winds)
Hole 3- bogey (par 5, I was on in 2 and was about 20 feet away, I 4 putted)
                    Hole 4- bogey
                    Hole 5- birdie

(so I am only 1 over going in to 6, and could be 1 or 2 under pretty easily)

Hole 6- 11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Unbelievable shot one ob, shot 3 from the tee hits a tree that for some dumb reason is overhanging the tee box ball drops straight down, hit a hybrid off another tree, so I am now laying 4 from about 375 out, shot 5 in to the pond. 6 out, hitting 7 from about 200. I hit it about 10 yards short of the green, chip it short on the fringe and 3 putt.)

                    Holes 7,8,9- bogey, par, par.

Take out the 11 and I am 2 over through 8 and 7 over on 1 hole.

                    Rough day.

Good luck on the tourny Junkie. I would like to hear about a victory or at least and "in the money" finish.

Doubles and triples are killing me right now.

                      • Now this is a topic I can get into!!!

                        I've been a consistent 9 handicapper since after the mission...pre-mission I was down around a 6.

Golf thrills...first I'm spoiled b/c I grew up playing Riverside CC nearly every single day in the summer time. It really is a very nice country club.

                        Great golf courses I've played?
Ventana Canyons (hit a drive through a Saguaro cactus...left a perfect hole in it)
                        Pebble Beach as a young'en
Wolf Creek (if you have $200 to waste in Mesquite...play it)
All the Bob Hope Classic courses
Couer D'Alene Resort Golf course (famous for the floating green)
                        Pumpkin Ridge
                        Troon
                        The Boulders
                        Phoenician
                        Camelback
And so on and so on...

I'm lucky to have a father who made our vacation plans around great golf courses. The loser brothers got to play at the TPC at Sawgrass when I was a missionary.

I love golf...anyone want to play...let me know. BYU71...you know I'll kick your arse again.

Yea, let's play again. I swear though if you mention "I hit 3 iron" as your ball sails by my drive, I will hit a 3 iron straight and true straight at your hanging chads.

It's fun to think about great courses played.

California: Pebble, Spyglass, Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills, Aviara, Torre Pines, Stanford, Half Moon Bay
Hawaii: Kaanapali, Poipu Bay, Mauna Lani

Arizona: Grayhawk (both courses), Deseret Mountain, Raven, Tucson National, Stone Canyon, Ventanna (both courses)
                            Illinois: Cog Hill

                              • Today's Report: 42+40=82

Was all excited to play two days in a row, woke up early, and while I was shaving my back went out. Slipped, with the sharp pain. I've played through back pain before, and I was determined to gut it out. When I got to the course, I could barely get out of the car, but I know if I get a little loose, I could be alright. I hit a couple of warm up balls at 50% and they flew alright, so I headed to the first tee.

I could put a swing move together, but teeing up and taking out of the hole was difficult. With reduced power I just focused on keeping the club head square and I kept hitting OK. My new driver is still in the braking in period, and today it came through like a champ. Several times it gave me good distance where I could swing easy with a 7 or 8, and be putting.

Even constrained with a bad back, it was still fun, and I can't wait till next time.
