+5 today in our 4 man scramble. I couldn't find the fairway off the tee for most of the day. I had one decent drive. About 30 yards shy of the green on a 350 yard par 4. Absolutely crushed it. We were about 40-45 yards from the pin and nobody could put the ball within 30 feet of the hole.

Still out of the 5 teams we finished second. The best team finished even. I guess that means we all sucked.

Also, aerated greens suck!

I got my clubs back from Uintah last night and they now have an extension on them that takes them back to regular size. I am anticipating todays round and hoping this extension gives me the distance I need.

The Uintah Golf on 2100 is a great golf shop. It's one of my favorites anywhere. I bought my first set of golf clubs there, back when I was in school; a used set of Maxfli VHLs.

I love a good scramble - and yes this time of year with aerated greens suck.

What kind of golf ball does everyone use?

Last year I played the Callaway Hot Bite Green, and the Top Flite Gamer. Both are 3 piece balls more prone to spinning than distance. I convinced myself that was a good thing. Late in the year my sons gave me some Callaway Diablo's and I really liked them for the distance, and the control on short shots. It was the ball I shot a 34 with on the back nine last summer. For Christmas my kids gave me some Callaway HX tour, but again they don't give the distance I'm used to.

So... does anybody have a golf ball that they love, and tell me why.

I really like the Bridgestone E6+. About $27 a dozen, and really helps keep me straight, but sacrifices some spin into the green with short irons and chip shots. If you are a straight hitter and want a better ball, the Bridestone B300 RX. It is designed for swing speeds of <105mph. Supposed to be really long and has descent spin into the green. The RXS is basically bridgestones version of the ProV1, from what the fitting rep told me. Supposed to have 12% more spin than the RX.

I play with Pinnacle Gold Precision balls. My natural swing is inside-out so I tend to hit a high fade. I've found that this ball has a flatter trajectory so I get a bit more distance off the tee (about 20 yards).

I've not noticed any difference between this and any other ball when I hit into the green because with my swing, I put so much backspin on the ball that the ball lands and stops rather quickly. I've also not noticed any difference when I'm chipping and putting.

I'll buy a sleeve here and there. When 50% of my tee shots end up in the woods I can't justify paying more than a $1 ball. Typically I'll play the best ball out of whatever I find in the woods. If I come out with more balls than I put in it's a good day. :P

Yesterday I played some Srixon Trispeeds that my dad gave me. I actually like the Srixons quite a bit. The Z-stars are really nice.

Thanks. I have a buddy who has about $1,200 in prize money. I think I can get him to trade that in for the clubs I want and discount it to for $800. He is a real good friend, so I don't think I am going to try and negotiate him down to $600.

Note: Shot 85 yesterday. No excuses. Played with my lengthened clubs and the weather was great. If I had got up and down in two everytime I was within 10 yards of the green or two putted, I would have shot 78. I think I will be OK.

Good news is I teamed well with my partner and we clipped the group for a little over $260.

The Bridgestone fitting told me I was a E5. Now if I knew why I'd be happy. My biggest problem is that I have more than 50 playable balls in my dining room of various makes, and another 100 in the shag bag. My wife wants the dinning room to be a piano room, and till she gets a grand piano, it sits empty except for my golf balls and chipper and putter. I chip and putt everyday, and can tell its made a huge difference in around the green. I putt and chip about 1/2 hour a day. I don't lose many balls, so I usually wear them out, and my 5 kids always give me golf balls for every occasion, and since I'm always gracious in the reception of them, I get all kinds of balls I would never buy for myself.

I have a thing about Titleist Golf balls. I don't where it happened, but I don't like the feeling of playing the #1 ball on tour. I like being different, and Titleist rubs me the wrong way. I know guys that would rather not play than play with something other than a Titleist. On the other hand, I don't like the name Srixon, and would never put it in play even though it may be a mighty fine ball.

I haven't experimented with Bridgestone or many of the newer golf balls recently. Primarily because I have 6 dozen Pro V1 with my company logo on them, I need to use up first.

If I could hit a halfway decent drive more than 1/3 of the time, I might actually hit some greens in regulation and post a better score. I am reverting back to my old outside in swing, which is giving me either pulled shots to the left or weak 230 yd fades to the right. One of these days I will start hitting a high draw again, I just don't know whether it will be in this life or the next. I'm still struggling with the 155-130 distance...I'm not even missing close to the green. Thankfully my chipping and putting around the green have been pretty solid for this early in the season. Today I rolled in a 35 footer for birdie and barely missed two other birdies from 20+ feet.
