Anyone know what happened to Kokopelli? That course had great reviews, it was a bit out of the way but I was looking forward to playing it. However it looks like they went out of business.
Kokopelli was cool but they had a trailer as a clubhouse.

A few holes were too gimmicky but the course was pretty sweet.

I got a very polygamy feel out there.

Coyote Springs has a trailer and when we first pulled up I was thinking "HOly shit this place looks like a dump". Then he tells us to drive back down the path about 1/2 mile, we get back there and the range and practice facility was decent gave me a bit of hope. We pull up to hole 1 and I wasn't real impressed, hole 2 was a little better. Then you come around the corner I believe it is hole 3 or 4 and its like this desert oasis appears. It was pretty damn cool.

For $100 they let you play all day in February. Unfortunately we were stuck behind a small corporate tournament, it took 6 hours to play 18. We barely snuck in another 9 before dark.

That's a pretty accurate description. For the first couple of holes you are wondering "what's the fuss." Then you hit the Par 5 3rd with the pond, waterfall, and bridge and you realize this isn't your average course. From there on out it is pretty awesome.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

We were waiting on just about every hole and my friends were fishing balls from the pond, every ball was Pro-V1 caliber. They were pretty pumped about it.

So true, I had been told the story so many times by friends who had played the course that it was out in nowhere and a trailer for a Pro Shop. They didn't tell me it was a very "cheap" trailor.

I couldn't see any grass as we drove up or as we drove out to the practice facility and course and then voila, it just appears before you eyes. The contrast between the course and it's surroundings is night and day.

            • I've belonged to the local senior men's club for a few years, but until today hadn't played in any of their semi-monthly tournaments. Today was a two-man Pinehurst format, where you each tee off and then hit each other's second shots. From there you pick the better ball of the two and then alternate going into the hole. An interesting format but not a favorite. We shot a 79 in the A flight; no word on how we finished.

The most interesting part of the round was the other team which consisted of two recent retirees. I asked them what they had done for a career, and they replied, a bit reticently, "Uh, let's call it population control on a global scale." It turns out they spent the past four decades designing nuclear warheads at nearby Sandia Labs.

              • If you were flight A, and you guys shot a 79, you'll be about 12 shots off the pace. Our club did the same format 3 weeks ago (when I played on a Sunday) and the winner was 10 under over two days. It's a fun format, kind of like mixing soda drinks, but it's certainly not a golfing lifestyle choice.

The more interesting question here... are you going to be playing more now that you've got the money problems solved at Dowton Abbey?

Well if it's not one thing, it's another, but yes, I'm going to start playing more. I signed up for the next tournament in two weeks. I expect muscle memory to kick in soon so all my bad habits will return and I'll be ready to really suck at the CS tournament in four weeks.

                  • So how does one get 5 pars two birdies (Very Rare) and still shoot a 97? I will one day put everything together. Even though I am disappointed I have one shot that keeps playing in my head.

Par 5 3rd shot from a sand trap 115 to the flag. Pull out my new Cleveland 588tt sand wedge. Know I have to strike nothing but the ball. Flies over the flag 8 yards spins back to within 3inches of the hole.

                    Man that is just fun!!!!
( FYI I most likely wrote that incoherently and will be properly corrected forthwith. Thanks)

Is the 97 with your new clubs? Ouch!

97 is not bad for me. It's about avg. however I bought the clubs to improve. Which I believe I have the exception being 6 blowup holes of double bogey or more. Lol

Ha! Shows how little you know about golf. We only lost by ten! I was just pleased weren't last.

                          • Men's Club Report Aug 10, 2013

                            40+42=82

                            1 Birdie, 8 pars, 7 bogeys, 2 doubles.

I was 1 under through 5 holes, and had the heavy weight of our team on my broad shoulders. Two to get out of a trap, and then a two putt for double began the fall of grace that I rented for an hour. I won't go into the woulda, coulda, shouldas, 'cepting that 15 foot eagle putt that lipped out causing me a great deal of pain. Oh... and that 18 incher on 9 that I missed.

I had probably the funnest playing partners today that you could get on a random draw. There was Dr. Newton, a 74 year old degenerate, with a cigarette hanging off his lips, who took self deprecation to a whole new hilarious level. There was Bob a 70 year old dirty old man that tells the most vile and funniest jokes you've heard, and Scott a retired 60 something with a Charles Barkley hitch in his swing, who liked to ride the weakest link in the group with a biting satire of their performance on the last hole. The best moment of the day was on 12 when Scott said after another missed short putt, "The putts keep going where I aim," and immediately Bob and I at the same time say, "why don't you just aim at the hole." That moment had us chuckling, and gave us a running gag, especially Dr. Newton who opined two or three times thereafter. "Aim at the hole GDammit," with a cigarette hanging on his lip.

For you guys that don't hang out with vile, heathen, old duffers, you're missing out.

                            • My golf game is the best it has ever been. If I hit from the ladies tees like BYU71 I would be in the 70s on a consistent basis. Because I am a grown man and hit from the tips my last 5 rounds are all between 80-82.

Good, perhaps at the golf get together you might have the nuts to make a wager with me.
