So I will go away happy with that.
    I"m pretty sure I could shoot a 90 on 9 holes.

I also feel a lot worse about the handicap. After getting hit I was only 3 over the next 7 holes. I might consider as my pre-game routine having someone hit me over the head with a hammer.

      • I had a 90 year old patient who may have died, if not for wearing some high quality eyewear, purchased from yours truly. She lives on CC, and was sitting on her patio one day, when ball came towards her. She heard "fore" and instinctively turned towards the sound, the ball hit her glasses popping out the lens, and causing the frame to gash her cheek. At her age, I don't think it is unreasonable to think a ball straight into her eye, may have killed her. Scary stuff.

My worse offenses while golfing (not counting public urination, nor 4-putting) are: breaking a second story window, at least 100 yard off the fairway, hitting a UPS truck on a pull-hook, and once putting a blazing line drive through a golf cart between the driver, and the windshield.

I am now a 20 handicap and in our year long match play event, that high of a handicap didn't even help us to victory. I have resorted to buying a couple of books that focus on the mental aspect of golf.

I'm with PAC on this one, that you were playing to a 20 made me feel worse than the ball to the head. I sincerely hope that the golf Gods smile upon you again and your game returns.

I hit a guy in the chest (fortunately, it was a provisional and my first turned out to be in good shape!) and although he threatened legal action, nothing came of it--among the reasons, two of his playing partners were physicians and they told him he was just fine and to stop whining. But it made me nervous enough that I did a little research and found that, in California at least, golfers are NOT liable for hitting others on the course. The court that established the rule observed that errant golf balls on a course are a given, and that golfers and spectators assume the risk when they voluntarily enter the course.

This rule doesn't apply to shots that drift out onto a road or someone's house.

Im glad to know that at least on the course we are not liable. However the last part concerns me a little. A couple years back I sent a tee shot through a fairway dogleg and sraight into a backyard. It was easily the longest I had ever hit the ball on this hole and her backyard was almost 300 yards away from the teebox. as I watched the ball, I notiiced there was a lady standing in the backard and the ball sailed right by her face about 1 foot to her left. I saw her flinch/duck out of the way. I could have killed her! I felt compelled to go apologize. Tick was with me and made me drop him off well away from the lady's yard. In the end, she gave me my ball back and said that "you could have at least yelled fore".

I think the rule should apply to the homes on GC as well. With same "errant golf balls on a course are a givenand Home Owners and Car Owners assume the risk when they buld a home or park a car near/on the course."
( FYI I most likely wrote that incoherently and will be properly corrected forthwith. Thanks)

              • I golfed with a guy once who told a story about him being on the green and a guy from 100 yards out hit a line drive right into his nose. Broke his nose and fractured his face. He said if he was not knocked out he would of killed him and by the look of the guy I am sure he would have.

                • 71... man that's rough. On the fly in the head. I hope the kid signed a glove and gave it to you.

Last Saturday as I was teeing off, we had a new club member join our particular group. As we were introducing ourselves, the other two members mentioned that it's always better to be in clack's group than in front of him... and then went to tell the story of me beaning a guy 3 years ago, and the ensuing details of the investigation of did he yell "fore" or not.

                  • I played in my clubs US Open day yesterday, because of my age I had to play from the tips something I've never done before. I tried to argue that despite my actual age, I feel and look much closer to 60 that argument wasnt accepted. I shot a 49-47 in a downpour, the greens were harder than they've ever been but I was hammering the ball. From the Greens/Blues that I usually play I would have been wedge/9 iron into everything. Our best ball net was 69, which because of the weather was the clubhouse leader when we left!

                    My ball in the 18th!

You played yesterday!? There was a tornado in McMinneville yesterday, and in Salem and Woodburn, the fastest speed on the wipers was not enough. Circa noon to 4

                              • Men's Club Report: US Open 2 Man (Net) Best Ball Tournament.

                                -7 65

                                Me: 1 eagle, 3 birdies.

7:00 am shotgun start. Our team started on 16, one of the hardest holes on the course. With a little dew on the ground, I teed off and pounded a drive right down the middle over the hill, and onto the flat before the pond. From 88 yards I hit a U wedge, and hit it flush. So flush that it bounced once, and rolled 4 feet into the cup for an eagle. With 16 being a handicap hole I got a net 1, three under for the hole. Then on the next hole I got a triple bogey. On my own ball I shot an 81, and my playing partner shot 15 strokes over his 12 handicap. Of our 7 under net, he contributed 1 shot, and made a couple of pars to maintain my momentum.

I was shocked that my score was as high as 81, as I was playing out of my head, and hitting it flush. I was pushing the edge for birdies, and had to pay the price with a few doubles. Fun factor was high, but have to admit to being concerned for my playing partner and his awful putting. On one hole he had a 20 foot birdie putt, and only hit it 8 feet leaving himself 12 feet for a par, which he missed. On another 20 foot birdie he asked me for advice, and I told him not to leave it short. He hits it 10 feet past the hole. In the end it didn't matter, the professional sandbaggers always take the loot, and somehow the winning number is always around 14 under. I only had high hopes for one hole.

Shots of the Day: 3rd hole, 260 yard drive down the middle. 116 wedge to 8 inches.
