    This afternoon is Thanksgiving Pointe.
    5 Triples? That hurts...

      Nice one.

      • My afternoon round at Thanksgiving Pointe was less than stellar. We started on the back 9 and had a good side going ( was on my way to a solid 44). Then I had a quintuple bogey on hole 17 (par 3 put 2 in the water, then flew the green, then 3 putt). This put me in a less than pleasant mood and I never recovered mentally. On the front 9 I was sunburnt and tired, and we got backed up with slow play. I checked out mentally and started really hitting bad shots. It is a round I'd like to forget.

        5 pars, 2 bogeys, 10 doubles, 1 quintuple bogey.

TP is a tough course, at least it is for me. Triples pop up all the time, thanks mainly to the wind and my inability to putt the greens. Heck, this is back when I played well. I imagine right now I could throw down a 120 if I counted each shot.

          • Played Hobble Creek this morning and redeemed myself from yesterday's bad round at TP.

            45+44= 89. (1 birdie, 2 pars, 11 bogeys, 3 doubles).

I have never broken 100 @ Hobble and never broken 90 in Utah. The tight fairways together with my spray and pray driving is a bad combo. Today I was able to keep myself in the fairway for the most part. On the back I had no GIRs but my chipping was good and my putter was working.

            Gladstan this afternoon.

I shot an 87 there yesterday.

              • Played so-so @ Gladstan Tuesday afternoon. 47/49= 96 (1 eagle, 2 pars, 8 bogeys, 4 doubles, 2 triples, 1 quad, 44 putts). Highlight of the round was a eagle on 18. I drove the green in 2 and made about a 6 footer for eagle.

Played Homestead this morning. Could have been the round of my life. I am still angry. 41/51= 92 (1 birdie, 7 pars, 5 bogeys, 3 doubles, 1 quad, 1 bogey 6, 30 putts). I played lights out on the front. Drained a 40ft putt for birdie on #7. I had an 8 on hole 11, but was fighting to keep a good round going. I was on track to shoot low 80's until the last 3 holes. I blew up on hole 16, duffed my drive into the water, dropped and duffed a 4 wood, then hit a 5 iron OB. Dropped and pulled my 7 iron OB left, dropped and hit through the green, chipped to the hole and a 1 putt. I was so pissed. I then doubled the last 2 holes; 17 I hit a ball in the water, 18 I hit my drive right OB. +10 on the last 3 holes. I have never been so depressed/angry to shoot a 92 in my life. Also, I lost to Tick by 2 strokes.

                • Went by the course late this afternoon. I played 9 holes and took 75 pictures of the course. This is looking back on the 17th hole a 190 yard par 3 over water.

                  11th hole a 135 yard par 3.

                    42+42=84

Missed a 3 foot birdie on two, and then tweaked my back on the 6th hole drive. Back has been suspect for two weeks, and I was hurting pretty bad today. It was a bogey fest, as I couldn't get through the ball, and everything was staying right. Putting was bad too, and the worse part was getting the ball out of the hole. I walked the front, and got a cart for the back. Didn't win any money, and am down to $14 on my book money.

                    • I have a couple of questions about what y'all do with your balls. ["Unto the pure, all things are pure, but unto them that are defiled, nothing is pure."]

                      1. How long will you continue to play with the same ball (assuming it hasn't been damaged)?

                      2. What do you do with balls you've retired or that you've found but for whatever reason won't play?

I might use a ball for an entire round, but I like starting a round with a new ball. Over time, I end up with dozens of balls I'll never play with again, and Mrs. PAC is mildly irritated by a couple of large buckets of used balls in our garage. Have you taken your old ones to the range and simply hit them away?

I've created a 'shag bag' of about 50 balls I take and use at the chipping green. But anything over that I have in a bucket in the garage. I was thinking about chucking them, but I realized I'll be having some kids taking up golf in the next few years, and they'll easily burn through them.

But I'm with you--I like to start a round with a new sleeve (or at least a matching set in good condition).

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. • To answer PAC's first question. Bleeding is a very good indicator that too much play, warrants switching to a new ball. Scuffing, bruising, and out of round are all reasons the ball may bleed to the left or bleed to the right. Nice solid round balls don't bleed.

I like a "fresh" ball to begin a round. I carry two balls on my person. The game ball and the provisional. The provisional needs to be a different number than the game ball. Today I hit a provisional on the 10th hole. I said, "I'm hitting a provisional. My first ball was a Pro V red 6, my second ball is a red 8." By declaring the balls, the search and rescue helpers will know which ball they find, and to what penalties will be earned. In our club we have to mark our balls. I use a Yellow Sharpie, and highlight the brand name. Looks cool, and the yellow highlight is easily identifiable. When my original red 6 was found by a teammate, there was no doubt as to which ball was in play.

Recently I played the same ball for 4 rounds. It was still good, and I continued to play it. Mostly my game ball is new, and my provisional has been previously used. In my case, I don't loose a lot of balls. The course does not loose a lot, and my play level makes them easy to find. I basically wear balls out, and they go to the shag bag where I save them, and then they end up being shipped to Provo with some sort of "care package" than my wife sends too often. My one son is a one man ball losing machine, and I'm sure someone in Utah is the beneficiary of all his (unlooked for) golf balls.

In our house, there are golf balls in every nook and cranny. In drawers, closets, garage, you name it, there will be a golf ball somewhere it doesn't belong.

We have 27 holes and it is a ball eating machine. The north nine is fairly mellow but if you hit it right on five of the holes the ball is gone. The south nine has seven holes with water that is easy to hit into. The high handicappers stay away from this nine because they can go through a dozen balls. The middle nine is a "links" style nine which means they just don't want to have to mow very much. I believe it just slows down play because it's a nightmare to finds balls in the hay. Needless to say I don't have a shag bag and I don't have balls all over my house.

                            • Played my final 2 rounds of the 2012 mancation yesterday. Tick an I played 36 holes @ Wasatch.

We started on the lakes course. 44/47=91. 1 birdie, 4 pars, 8 bogeys, 3 doubles, 2 triples, 38 putts. I played fairly well. Weather was great.

We played the mountain course in the afternoon. 47/48=95. 4 pars, 6 bogeys, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 35 putts. I could have easily shot 100 plus. I had control issues all round. We were treated to a pretty nice thunderstorm as we finished hole 9. We had to take shelter at the snack bar for about 20-25 minutes until the storm passed. After that, the weather was beautiful.

Couple notes of interest. On hole 10 on the lakes course, we were going way too fast down the cart path and veered off the path to go to our balls. Well, I didn't see the roped off area until too late. I locked up the brakes and the cart spun violently. I thought we were flipping for sure. I got tossed from the cart and banged my head on the ground pretty hard. I also got my ankle/foot ran over. I am really sore this morning.

On the mountain course we got paired with to really nice guys. Over the course of playing, we found out that one of the guys is in the same ward as 3 of the 12 and is Elder Bednars home teacher. No thank you....
