Well, thanks, but what was really refreshing about this (and I assume other trail races--this was my first) was the lack of concern about time. They didn't have an official timer or numbers or anything. It was just a bunch of people out there running a trail, all just taking in the views (which were spectacular). It was a really refreshing break from all concern about splits or pace and just go out and run. Of course, I'm not there yet--I still took my Garmin.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I forgot just how much I love trail running. There was a crazy amount of big ups and downs on the course (including a river crossing), and I was a wet and muddy mess, but I haven't had that much fun running in a really really long time. I need to work in more trail races.

Ran it in my old NB MT10's, which probably have 700-800 miles on them. I freaking love that shoe.
      Speaking of trail running...

Do you know anything about the Zion Ragnar? I don't know if this is their first year or what, but had someone show it to me and it looks interesting.

I haven't done much (any?) trail running - but I could see getting into it.

never done it, but we're doing it this year. it's pretty expensive, as I found out a few weeks ago, to the extent that I probably wouldn't have done it, but we had already committed to a friend who's putting a team together. it sounds fun, and with a little more sleep and easier logistically than the traditional ragnar, since there's a central home base that you run around.

Being based centrally and running loops seemed like it could be fun to me. It is expensive, but I think the early bird (which is closed now) was a little more reasonable.

There is another race up by Ogden that looks interesting too. 18 hours of Ogden http://www.r-scape.com/what.html

The gist of it is that you have a team of 4-6 people, and you take turns running the same 10K mountain trail loop - seeing which team can complete the most revolutions within the 18 hour time frame.

interesting. there are lots of mountain bike races like that--a friend of mine and I were going to do one last year at frog hollow until we had to pull out at the last minute--but I've never seen a running race. we might try that one.

              • Kinvara 3's have suddenly gotten cheap--which must mean the 4 is out or coming out? Just picked up a pair for $69.

I checked runningwarehouse.com, and they still have the Kinvara 3 for $90. They do have the Kinvara TR (trail running shoe) for $69. If it's online someplace, I'll be all over that.

                        This is where I ordered:
                        http://www.northriveroutfitter.com/s...x=-1140&y=-112

They don't have all sizes, but they had mine. I'm guessing that since the 4 hasn't come out yet, these deals will only get easier to find.

                        • I've now logged 55 miles on my Saucony Rides, I like them. My knee and ITB issues are improving eventhough my mileage has climbed from 5-6 miles/wk to 10 miles the last two weeks. My average training run is now at least 3 miles, a year ago that distance took months of training to run just once. It's amazing what a little constant effort will do over the long term.

Very cool to see you improve like this. Nice!
