I went to Brighton the other night... saw a dude on a ski bike. I think they'd allow about anything on that hill-- not very uptight there.

I miss skiing. It has been about 5 years since I have been on a mountain, and probably 12 since I skiied/boarded multiple times in a season. It makes me sick.

My old man used to have some sick hook ups at Deer Valley, so we would ski there all the time for free. Celebs I've "skiied" with at the Deer include Tony Danza (you tell me who the boss is), Joan Rivers, and Stein Eriksen.

Skiing highlight was one day when we were at Deer Valley, they happened to have some event going on at the same time (probably late 97 or early 98). They had set up a little downhill course, so we got in line to ski down it. As I was about three people from the course, they put a skier in front of me for the event, none other than Alberto Tomba. He breezed through the course like it was nothing... and then left me with the distinction of being the skier who had to follow him down the course. It was pretty cool to have skied the same path as one of the greatest skiers on earth seconds after him.

Ski story number two involves probably the most awkward looking skier I've ever "skied" with. We were at Snowbasin (one of the better resorts, and, the last few times I've been lesser crowded resorts) waiting to get on the lift when there was a bearded white guy towering about 18" above the rest of the ski crowd. It was quite a joy watching this guy ski down the mountain:

As an addendum to my post, I've been in a bit of a conundrum lately. One of the biggest reasons why I haven't skied/boarded much lately is I don't have gear. And the biggest reason why I don't have gear is I can't make up my mind if I would rather be a boarder or a skier. I don't go enough to do both.

My wife and parents both ski. I am a much better skier than boarder. But I could see my kids wanting to board, and more friends board than ski. And given that I enjoy wakeboarding in the summer, boarding has appeal to cross train so to speak. However, two resorts that I love (Alta and Deer Valley) don't (or at least didn't allow) boarding last time I checked.

I think skiing probably wins out, and the longer I go without doing either, I am definitely swayed towards skiing.

I'll sell you all of my boarding gear. It's been sitting in storage for 3 seasons now and I don't know when I'll get to go again. The last time I went was at Hood over Christmas two years ago and I had to rent.

I started skiing but was never into it. It was tough for me and I was never very comfortable or good at it. However, the first time I stepped into snowboard bindings I was good to go. It just felt natural and easy. I think it was just surfing and skateboarding growing up. I dropped skiing and never intend to go back.

I think boarding is a million times more fun. That's why I don't waste one second (or penny) skiing.

I think it's more fun, simply because I am better at it. That and all of my friends board as well.

After spending hundreds of days doing each, I think this is what it comes down to. I have the gear for both but I haven't snowboarded more than once or twice a season for a long time. I also prefer skis in the powder and on the bumps, which is what we usually ski. In the park, though, snowboarding is a lot more intuitive and way more fun for me.

I've been planning on riding consuming most of my free time this winter, but wednesday (2nd day of the season) my buddy ended up with a separated shoulder and will be in a sling for 6 weeks. It's looking like I'll be doing a lot more solo riding than I had planned on this season. If anyone's at the canyons sometime this season and wants to take a few runs let me know.

I didn't know my injury had affected you this much. Why don't you get out there and ride for me this week, eh?

                        • I am currently sitting on a ski bus at the base of snowbird heading up to Alta. I will probably suck after so long not skiing, but it won't matter. Today looks like it will be EPIC.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I was riding solo yesterday and thinking about how fun it was that year we came up and rode for new years, we definitely need to do that again. I'll text you, maybe we can figure something out.

Also, how long will the tight pants thing be held over my head?

I went up yesterday. I was planning on going tomorrow, but I don't think my car will make it up the canyon
