  • Everyone is just waking up in the lodge this morning. 6-7 inches of fresh overnight. I'm wondering if I can convince ldc we should bail on church and find God through nature for a few hours, doubtful.

DDD your pics made me very nostalgic, sitting on the top shack at GW with that world class view was the most fun I could dream about having for $7 an hour. Somedays I wish I could go back.

        Holy shit!

That looks amazing. Sick rider line up. This is supposed to be Travis Rice's follow up to That's It, That's All which was unreal. My goodness these guys aren't just riding backcountry, they're killing it.

        • Awesome Spring Break skiing yesterday. 100" base, fresh tracks to be found everywhere. HFN Jr. starting to make some nice turns, despite being more interested in finding trees trails.

          • Local yokels....the weather is starting to change so it is never too early to start thinking about deals on passes.

What are people here doing for the season? Last year I just went to Salty Peaks to buy discount passes for the days I needed them. This season I am thinking of buying a book of 10 to get the better discount. I think it comes out to approx $45 per day if you buy the book of 10.

I will be returning to Brighton, and if all goes well, I have a date with Wren Hollow.

            • First I will see what Snowbird has to offer and go from there. I'll probably end up at Brighton and Solitude once in a while.

I also decided I'm going to dust off the snowboard this year.

                • So snowbird is selling well priced discount passes right now. Two days of skiing for $78. I'm tempted to grab a couple except I would rather get two physical lift tickets as opposed to having to go back twice on the same ticket. I'm not sure what sort of restrictions are placed on the snowbird tix.

Does anyone buy lift tickets from the 'Co? They have them every year, are they priced well?

Brightons presale ends on Monday. A book of 10 passes for $45 each. That is a pretty solid deal.

This season we will have family from out of town flying up to ski throughout the season, so I'm hoping to go often. My goal is 10 times, which would be a pretty good year for me. I'd also like to hit Big, Little, PCMR, and Canyons, as opposed to the same resort every time. I have lofty goals, I know.

Sounds like an excellent goal. Maybe I'll see you up there.

In my ski news I decided to go with custom fit boots this year. Great way to break the bank and have comfy boots!

You absolutely need to hit up Snow Basin. It's so legit... tons of upgrades for the olympics, where the slalom and super G events were held, great slopes, and it gets the Lamb's share of traffic compared to the Cottonwood/Park City resorts. It's solidly the #2 resort in Utah behind Snowbird for me...

It just seems so far to drive. I would be looking at 1.5 hrs each way

$78 for 2 days at Snowbird is a pretty good deal. Does it include the tram?

We ended up doing the Snowbird Family pass, which works well for our family (2 adults, 2 kids 7-12, 2 kids under 6). In order to make it worthwhile from a financial standpoint we need to ski 8 times this season.

I like the season pass because I don't feel bad about using the pass for a half-day or a few runs - it's predictably unpredictable that I'll get a few hours on some random weekday and being able to head up the canyon on short notice is nice. If the kids get tired or cold I don't feel like I have to say, "I paid for a full-day, you're skiing a full day." Downside is we're always at Snowbird, but the terrain is great and my kids love it. Snowbird also has the longest season.

                          • Something I really wish Utah would do that Colorado offers are multi-resort season passes. I know they started the super pass thing but those are 3-day or 7-day passes I think good for the Big and Little Cottonwood resorts. That's sweet if you're an out of stater on a ski vacation. But I really wish there was something better for locals. I usually bought a season pass to Brighton, then went to a Warren Miller show to get my free Canyons day pass each year. But it's too damn expensive to resort hop.

That's a dang good price for Snowbird.

That's also the best reason for a season pass. No pressure to stay a full day to get your money's worth. I could wake up see fresh snow, get some first tracks in and still have the rest of the day to do what I needed. If you wrap up with something and take off early you can get in a few runs in the afternoon.

                              • The bird pass includes tram and chair but I don't like having to go twice. I would rather buy a twofer and then give the pass to my wife so we can go together. If I understand the current deal correctly, we both have to purchase the twofer if we want to ski together on the same day.

I agree with surfah, would be nice for the resorts to put together a touring package for locals. It is cool to explore new mountains. Also, where are the really good locals single day discount passes? Folks here turned me on to salty peaks but I remember when you could go to Wills Pit Stop and get killer ski pass discounts.
