I agree it's lame to mage the deacons go get you the bread. If you miss it, you skip the sacrament that week.

But I think it's funny that people place more blame/shame on people who live close to the church for being consistently late vs those who live farther. The issue is the same, regardless of distance. You have a certain amount of time to get ready and get to church and fail to plan to make that happen. The person who lives 30 minutes from church has no less obligation to plan their time than the person who lives across the street.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Is that a thing? I don't think I've ever seen that before.

I've witnessed this in every ward I've attended across multiple states.

Which is why Gidget drives me nuts. I get it, I'm gone every Sunday usually by 630am for meetings and she has to get 4 girls ready for church alone. But church is at 1030. She knows it will take an hour to get ready. So wake up and start getting ready 15 minutes earlier. It's not that difficult.

Interesting. I've never seen that done either.

                  • People that are late for Church are people that are late for everything. It isn't exclusive to the LDS setting...and it drives me crazy.

Our ward starts at 9 A.M. and for us it is a 20 minute drive. We leave every week at 8:20 to get there by 8:40. Leaving early keeps you from being late. Super simple.

And no...I don't have young kids. But when we did have young kids we weren't late. We got ready early and got there early. (Even when I was in PEC.)

I helped pass about a month or so ago and had to go get the bread for a gentleman who missed it.

She knows exactly how I feel about it. I've stopped complaining about it to her long ago. She shows up when she shows up and I just sit there and wait patiently. But she knows that it still bugs me to no end.

I will say that she's gotten better about it.

One ward in our building has the door watching teacher hold the bread when the deacons go back for the water and then the deacon passing to the foyer doesn't have to make a special trip back for the bread, which happens every week in our ward. My son, as the TQP, is trying to get that incorporated in our ward too.

The bread trays are covered before the water is blessed. Handbook 2, 20.4.3. Hard to cover the bread trays if there's a tray by the door.

                            • I've never seen stragglers get the bread during the water.

Just reporting. Never looked at the book. No need to with my calling. They could always use a napkin.
