I wasn’t very clear. I think online education is a godsend for people who can’t or don’t want to go the traditional route and I strongly support spreading out tithing supported education to as many people as possible. But the church could run it just as well for a lot less money. I suspect that might be why we have a new/old commissioner.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI thought you were talking about the program in general. Wrong.Originally posted by ScoopJahoop View PostSorry. The farce is what he wanted and pushed for Pathway to become. Pathway, as it started and as it stands now, is basically one of BYU Idaho’s online programs. He had visions of Pathway being a stand alone institution until the accreditors got involved and laughed themselves comatose. They even took Clark Gilbert and made him the president of BYU-PW. One of BYUI’s online programs has it’s own president, cio, director of admissions, etc. That’s hilarious. And a huge waste of time and $.

My complaint is about what he thought it should be and tried to make it become.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWhy on earth are people against the Pathway program? I would love to understand this complaint.

Do tell. I'm 8 classes away from getting my BS. Educate me before I waste more of my time and my extremely discounted tuition.

One of the principle aims of striving to be a disciple of Christ is to care about others; to care about whether or not others have the opportunity to make and renew covenants, and to do my best not to detract from the experience. That is why it is a priority for me to show up on time—to be prepared to renew my own covenants and help foster a reverent and spiritually satisfying environment for others.Originally posted by Applejack View PostI didn't hear Holland's admonitions (again, priorities differ). But I think you getting upset by the "lack of respect" by people who can't get to church on time is weird. Just enjoy the sacrament with your incredibly punctual family! Why do you care if others miss it?

I can't believe there is any drama coming from this talk. Elder Holland basically said, "Hey, now that our sacrament meeting is only one hour long, can we all please make an effort to be on time to fully participate in our most important worship service?"
That's it. A simple, gentle admonition.

Such actions demonstrate a lack of respect for others.
Again, such behaviour isn't tolerated elsewhere in society, but at church it is, and perhaps it rightfully should be ... but within reason, per Elder Hollands admonition.

I know several people who have taken advantage of it and earned a degree. From my perspective as a post-secondary educator I think it's a great program.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostOh yeah, I wasn't responding to your post. Trying to figure out where the Scoop is coming from on this one.

I love the program. It is a fantastic benefit to anyone that is interested. Degrees are limited at this time, but they are always working on it.
I talk about Pathway to people at Church like somehow I am going to get them into my down line. Lol. It is truly a great blessing.
