I see now your disaffected is the same thing as my progressive Mormons. Apparently we agree.

If you guys think Utah's admission into the Pac 12 changed this board, wait till you see how this will affect it.

What you're overlooking is how the LDS Church will look to the next generations because of this. We've seen how shortsighted the LDS Church can be about that and how that itself can cause apostasy when people wake up to the true LDS history. You're overlooking that it's on the wring side of history. The LDS church has just reconfirmed its status as one of the primary racist, bigoted, and sexist institutions in US history. That's been its function and its persona in our nation's dramatic and breathtaking history, which has been essentially about the civil rights struggle. The LDS Church has further enshrined itself, written itself into history as among the bad guys in this ongoing struggle. Now progressives will have to decide if that's the side of history they want their posterity to see them as having been on. Why do you think the federal judges in all the red states are all -- every one of them -- siding against the LDS Church's agenda? It's sad to see how far the LDS Church has come since it was itself a victim of violent bigotry.

Funny side story-- my law school dean was actually named dean Schill. Apparently, lots and lots of donors had no problem getting over that.

But anyway, I would hope it is still possible around here to point out that two separate conspiracy theories, claiming that this crackdown was deliberately timed to maximize inconvenience to but one of several individuals across the country against whom proceedings were brought within a single day, are in tension with one another and are unlikely to both be true.

Oddly enough, even though I don't like Utah football, I don't like hockey, and I don't care for LeBron James, I've still only ever thought of you as an all-around good guy. I don't expect being on different sides of this discussion will change that.

Funk doesn't like Lebron James either so you guys do have that in common.

The fact that the bishop sent the notice at the time he did seems to make it even more orchestrated from higher ups. How many bishops are going to wait until a person is pretty much out of the ward (and currently living outside the ward boundaries) before they convene a council? I know that pretty much every bishop I have had would want to deliver the notice in person, not as a way to intimidate the person, but becuase the bishop cares about them and would probably like a chance to explain a coupel things about it. The fact a bishop did this at such an odd time leads me to believe he was pressured into do it quickly, either by his SP or someone even higher up.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

WTF? The blind support of the Church I can forgive but how can you not like Lebron James? Don't drag Lebron into this.

I can't wait for that talk in Priesthood session..."Bretheren...we must be united against a common enemy...Lebron James."

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I assume most GA's are Jazz fans so it will have to be Derek Fisher or maybe someone old school that we hate like Michael, Magic or Isiah.

I like the idea of loyalty to the guys who took a chance on you. I don't like buying up ad hoc coalitions a la the New York Yankees. Bird, Magic, Jordan-- each of them built up dynasties with the team that drafted them. I liked lebron as a cav. I would nevertheless prefer to see the Yankee-Heat model of building championship teams fail. To date, obviously, it hasn't worked out that well for me.

Are you saying that the timing is being forced, whether or not it's convenient for her, and therefore it's likely it is pushed from the top? If that's the case, I agree. I don't think, however, that this particular timing is because she is inconvenienced by it.
