Just realized that I know both Kate Kelly's Stake President and Bishop. Those of you who are are on the side of Kate Kelly, will not care, but I am going to say it anyway...I have spent considerable time with both men and they are very good men. There has to be more to this story as neither of these individuals are the type that are how they are being depicted as crude calculating individuals are looking to embarrass and destroy others.

It is perceived that they are just following orders.

Most bishops and stake presidents are good people. My issue is with the requirement for them to go after people they think apostasize. They do it because they believe it's their duty. It doesn't make them bad people.

It was a smart move by the Dude to head to Southern Utah to ride this out. I bet he even has the Clive Bundy militia helping him hold off the attack.

If I was Kate Kelly's bishop there would be no way I would have blocked the transfer of her records. In fact, I would have made sure the records got to Utah before she did. Why would a good bishop (and/or SP) pass up the opportunity to give a potential problem case to some other poor bishop (and/or SP)?

Good thoughts. I would have called her in and tried to convince her she could get a lot more attention by announcing she could no longer in good conscience be a member and is asking to be removed from the church records. I would probably suggest she throw in the word repugnant somewhere.

If the higher ups got ticked at me for doing so, I would claim I was inspired as her Bishop to do so.

No, I am guessing she would have chickened out like SU. He is not much of a poker player either.

I wonder if SU's ostentatious rhetorical bullying works with his junior associates? My guess is they treat his rage and empathy about as seriously as we do.

Not sure if anyone else already said this or not, but the Stack article did say that Kelly was first talked to by her SP in early May, when she was put on probation and told to give up OW.org. So the fact that this happened couldn't be a surprise (although the specific timing might be) as she declined to comply with her SP's requests.
