The same way people's political views can wildly vary from the left to the right, I see a slippery slope (no pun) on how an individual's or couple's views on sexual intimacy can drastically vary:
-Free love with anyone
-Monogomy, but watch porn together to spice things up
-No porn, but act out other cleaner role-playing
-Wear costumes like the French maid and the nurse
-Wear lingerie designed to arouse
-Wear only standard pajamas or long nightgowns and be ourselves
-Sex is for procreation not recreation, and only do it every couple of years
-Sex is divinely sacred, should only be done in times of procreation, under the covers while wearing garments, and begin with a prayer

Slippery indeed. I am almost to the bottom of that hill!Originally posted by Fiyero View PostThe same way people's political views can wildly vary from the left to the right, I see a slippery slope (no pun) on how an individual's or couple's views on sexual intimacy can drastically vary:

Strictly doctrinally, I don't think you can make a case for anything but the last on your list.Originally posted by Fiyero View PostThe same way people's political views can wildly vary from the left to the right, I see a slippery slope (no pun) on how an individual's or couple's views on sexual intimacy can drastically vary:

I don't think there is anything doctrinally to support any of those bullet points. The last bullet point is accurate through "Sex is divinely sacred" and then goes way off the reservation from that point.Originally posted by Surfah View PostYou think so? The monogamous couple that watch porn to spice up their sex life is toeing the line, but are the other bullets in his list?

What do Native Americans have to do with this? Sounds kinky though.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI don't think there is anything doctrinally to support any of those bullet points. I know this isn't new, but instead of constantly harassing people about the dangers of pornography and how one day you can be looking at a playboy and the next you could kidnapping a woman in the back of your van, just pound it home on a church wide basis that everyone should have a porn blocker and/or a program that monitors web usage that is controlled by the woman These programs aren't perfect but I assume they're getting better every year. My work had a blocker (came with a new internet service) for a short period of time and it prohibited me from doing a Westlaw search that included a reference to drugs (legal, not illegal) or gambling, it was ridiculous. BYU, I thought, had a pretty good one. I was rarely prohibited from conducting a search that I needed to do.
I agree with many of your points, but I'm afraid I don't agree at all with this. I think it sends a bad message to the men of the church "You can't be trusted", and I think it sends a much worse message to the women of the church "your husband can't be trusted, and you are responsible for keeping him in line". I think this would make it even worse for couples when the man does get involved in porn. If a couple wants to set something up like this on their own, more power to them. In my house, we have some software like this. Both my wife and I know the password. If she suggested that I should not have access to the password, I admit I would be a little put out.

Am I the only one who thinks that porn gets talked about much less at church than it was 5 years ago? It seemed we used to get hit every Priesthood session with a talk in which porn was a central message, but I don't remember that happening for a while (I missed last conference and haven't read the Ensign yet, so if there was one then, mea culpa). At least in my ward, we never hear about it anymore at the local level. Neither my bishop nor my SP has mentioned porn in quite a while.
Maybe I'm wrong. It could be that I have just started to sub-consciously start sleeping whenver I hear it brought up.
