It's pretty deep seated up there, I was hoping Kim Clark would be one to change the cultural up there but nope. It runs deep, I golf with a guy that buys for the bookstore and he was complaining about the kids not living up to the standards up there and i'm sure he was just talking about minor things like dress. My brother is a HC up on campus and told me that he had to talk a bishop out of sending a kid home because he was masterbating, might has well send most of the boys home if you're going to do that. I do find it a little funny that BYU make fun of BYUI, it's like a older brother mocking his little brother despite sharing the same DNA.

My dad was a bishop up there and said that the first thing he asked to male students was not, "are you masterbating", but "when was the last time you masterbated". To which, in my mind, neither is the correct question...just are you following the LOC. One would hope that the new emphasis away from the nitty-gritty details of harsh standards in the new FTSOY pamphlet would start us down a better road, but I'm hearing there is already kick back. Sigh!Originally posted by RC Vikings View Post

5 or 6 years ago I applied to teach for BYU-I pathways online. The interview was a recording that you had answer on your phone. Worst interview ever for me. I thought "There's no way I will teach for them" At that time I was teaching for Central Michigan. Fast forward to a month later and I'm getting ready for my yearly Pac 12 basketball tournament trip and byu-i contacts me and needs me to take their prep for teaching at byu I class that all new teachers have to take in order for me to start teaching at the start of April. Well that means I have to be online for an hour every day while I am in Vegas but I'm ok with it cause I'll be teaching a class. So I do it and of course the class I was supposed to teach is given to someone else. Then Byu I continues to contact me every start of quarter for a year asking if I want to teach. I say ok and it gets scheduled only to have it rescinded at the last moment via form email. I suspect they contacted my bishop and he didnt give them an EE for me but who knows cause they never told me what was going on.Originally posted by RC Vikings View Post
We've had a couple of professors come through our ward on a one year contract that didn't get renewed, I talked to one of them and he told me he was never told why they didn't renew his contract. He was a good guy and the kind of guy I thought they needed up there. I live two blocks from campus and I'm surrounded by BYU-I professors, and like any place you can find a few good ones and a few I just don't like. I'm curious to see when change will happen up there. On both sides of us are professors with gays sons, the professor across the street from us has a gay son and daughter. We have three transgender kids in our ward, all kids of college professors. We can't be the only ward like that, as things hit pretty close to home maybe it will soften their stance on stuff."Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. Not sure this has been brought up but the murder of a Microsoft executive in Jacksonville, Florida has ties to the church.

My parents were just telling me about this case last week (my mom used to work for Stampin' Up). This is the daughter of the founder of Stampin' Up, I believe.Originally posted by dabrockster View PostNot sure this has been brought up but the murder of a Microsoft executive in Jacksonville, Florida has ties to the church.

The way he was killed makes it look like an execution. A tire placed in the middle of the road on a rural stretch. He gets out to move it and someone shoots him dead.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
