  • Just really bizarre. I expect to hear there will be changes.

    • I really hate to give BYU the benefit of the doubt here, but there absolutely has to be more to the story than what is being reported. BYU and the LDS church couldn't possibly be that rigid as to not renew a contract over things like this. Right?

There will have to be (assuming the facts in the story are fairly accurate), as the criteria used for the removal of the faculty member in question will result in the expulsion of a large number of additional faculty members. One hopes there is more to this story...

Or self-removal, for those who have options and foresight. And for those who don't have options, it may result in silence, which may be the desired outcome.

I graduated from BYU-I through the Pathway program. Loved it.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

That's probably the best way to attend BYU-I.

I actually loved my history professors and courses. They were great.

But outside of that, my experience in Sexy Rexy was sort of Twilight zone-ish.

No...but I did have to remain clean shaven, which was dumb.

We've had a couple of professors come through our ward on a one year contract that didn't get renewed, I talked to one of them and he told me he was never told why they didn't renew his contract. He was a good guy and the kind of guy I thought they needed up there. I live two blocks from campus and I'm surrounded by BYU-I professors, and like any place you can find a few good ones and a few I just don't like. I'm curious to see when change will happen up there. On both sides of us are professors with gays sons, the professor across the street from us has a gay son and daughter. We have three transgender kids in our ward, all kids of college professors. We can't be the only ward like that, as things hit pretty close to home maybe it will soften their stance on stuff.

Having grown up in SE Idaho, I am very skeptical that anything will ever change in R-Town unless it is forced upon them.

It's pretty deep seated up there, I was hoping Kim Clark would be one to change the cultural up there but nope. It runs deep, I golf with a guy that buys for the bookstore and he was complaining about the kids not living up to the standards up there and i'm sure he was just talking about minor things like dress. My brother is a HC up on campus and told me that he had to talk a bishop out of sending a kid home because he was masterbating, might has well send most of the boys home if you're going to do that. I do find it a little funny that BYU make fun of BYUI, it's like a older brother mocking his little brother despite sharing the same DNA.
