What possibly could have happened between September and now (besides the heroin, of course)?

I know the standard narrative here is that no one cares about this stuff. I'm guessing Tyler cared a bit, and maybe is a little tired of being paraded around as a celebrity icon by a church who can't stand what he is outside of his ldsliving profile. He's obviously hurting, and will probably do some stupid stuff while he's hurting. Maybe slurs aren't the most Christian approach.
I think simplest explanation about what happened is the most likely. He was betrayed by the church. He was lied to that there was a place for him. When the lie was revealed, especially after being trotted out as an example, it created some anger.

EDIT: We can certainly argue whether or not there is a place in the LDS church for homosexuals. Certainly, his perception is that there isn't a place and he has a lot of good reasons for believing that.

Likely he's been champing at the bit to just call it quits due to the call of the wild, so to speak, and this is a convenience served on a platter that people on the outside will accept.

Scientologists tend to see nothing wrong with scientology until they leave.

This was my experience with Mormonism.

From the inside, evil things seem like a mere nuisance that requires a bit of reconciling. From the outside, those bad things seem outrageously absurd and evil.

Take the BYU rape / honor code issue. Mormon insiders explain these things away or even justify them. University officials say they will "study their policies" as if study is required to not persecute rape victims.

Outsiders see evil for what it is because they are no longer under the Church's influence, which tends to confuse the conscience. (It takes religion for people to be so brainwashed as to dismiss or reconcile such an evil thing as kicking a rape victim while she is down by expelling her from the University over something as minor as alcohol or marijuana use.)

Like I said, scientologists see nothing wrong with scientology until they leave.

This seems really fair and objective!

I think it is a valid point though that BYU is an extreme outlier for low rate of sexual assault per capita. I would still totally get rid of Ecclesiastical Endorsements and most of the Honor Code gestapo if it were up to me -- would be better for BYU to be diverse and progressive more like Notre Dame.

But there is no doubt that as things stand currently, if a parent wants his/her daughters to have a safe college experience with extraordinarily low risk of being a sexual assault victim then BYU is pretty much the best college out there.

OK--so now the argument suddenly goes from:

"BYU shouldn't punish people who report sexual assault."

                    to

"Not much sexual assault occurs at BYU."

This is the typical rationalization or bizarre thought process that occurs on when you are inside the religion.

Whether the rates of sexual assault at BYU are lower or not, did it ever occur to you that people might not report it because they're afraid of the honor code office? Or that victims feel guilty about sexual encounters whether they are consensual or not given the fact that the religion is obsessed with sexual sin?

And even if your assumption is true that BYU is a safe place to be, it doesn't change the fact that BYU is wicked evil for kicking the victims out of school because they boozed it up or smoked some pot.

Cliven wants $50M from the Feds:

Bundy, 70, is seeking $50 million for the "illegal, unconstitutional, intentional and malicious acts" of the defendants.

He also wants to be let out of jail immediately. Neither are going to happen.

I wonder if the Fed's could send him one of those giant pretend checks, since they don't have any legitimacy and all.
