  • Let me muddy this polygamy thing up.

Jesus back in the day - prepared a big Power Point vision that He released to his major prophets throughout history. In the PP he showed the beginning and the end. There was a lot of information in it - so most of the prophets only remembered the ending - as it left a lasting impression on them. The ending of the PP showed how qualified men would be sealed to more than one woman - and how this was the model on how the race of Gods would populate the vastness of the Universe.

Joseph Smith with limited understanding - didn't fully comprehend about how we live in different dimensions at the same time - living out the consequences of our actions in a multiverse realm. Or maybe he fell asleep - like we do in the temple - anyway - Joseph knew that one man and multiple women would populate the empty Universe - so he carried that train of thought into a singular dimension - and gummed up the works from the get-go. Throw in some wholesome lust - and we've got a recipe.

In one dimension he might have got it right - in another dimension he made it even worse than the dimension we now comprehend. The Tree of Life - is the key to all of this. It starts out as a single seed - and forks and forks and forks - until such time at the end - the Tree of Life has multiple branches and leaves - each to give us experience - and help us to "Become like unto the gods - knowing good from evil.

    • I sincerely hope in one of those dimensions section 132 is repealed, Clack.

Anyway, Calvin replied with "On behalf of my fellow mormons, I apologize to all the ex-mos for Hank Smith" or something like that. Hank then called Calvin "Korihor" in a reply. He quickly deleted the tweet and apologized, but the damage was done.

I like Hank Smith so this was painful to watch. An unbelievable lapse in judgement. One thing you NEVER - EVER should do, is publicly go after students. Calling one the anti-christ is beyond the pale. Especially a prominent gay student like Calvin. Calvin posts some dumb things occasionally, but he is a good kid with a big heart. And he was absolutely on the right side of this one.
Hank Smith has unfollowed all but 15 people on Twitter I’ll let you guess who they are.

        What a weirdo.

Well, he is a religion professor at BYU so he’s definitely a weirdo, or at least a glorified institute teacher.

I am getting more and more sympathy for this guy, given the reactions.

He immediately deleted the tweet and apologized.

He takes a break from twitter. Stops making any tweets. Starts unfollowing people to avoid drama.

Unfollows everyone but the FP and Q12, so as not to offend people being unfollowed and make a cleaner break.

              Don't make me ....

This kind of take is not really fair. There are some outstanding religion professors at BYU that are doing great work and exhibiting excellent scholarship. And given that everyone has to take 7 credits of religion, they have no choice but to hire a large number of teaching faculty and adjuncts to cover all of the sections. Overall, they do a good job and the younger generation of academic faculty like Spencer Fluhman, Anthony Sweat, John Hilton, Barbara Gardner, Kerry Muhlstein, etc. represent a very bright future for the religion department.

I’m sure there good professors in there and your rational for some of the other professors makes sense. I am probably not someone to complain since I sought out the easiest professors for religion, which resulted in some boring but easy classes.

I agree. He made a bad mistake and has acknowledged that fact. Everyone knows he screwed up and he’s done everything right afterwards, if he can do right. He’s learning a hard lesson but he definitely shouldn’t be fired and should be given some grace.

Calvin and his brood live and prey on this stuff. They are constantly looking to chop heads of quasi-celebrity TBMs. They bait people into this stuff and then turn up the volume on their echo chamber to try and make an example of the offending person. I guess if you invent your victim status, you have to keep trying to find ways to validate it since it wasn’t initially valid.

Yeah, this is exactly right. Performative aggrievement/victimhood is the lifeblood of woke mormon twitter, so this dust-up is going to be milked for every drop. Ugh.

Good, we have identified the problem, now let's fix it.

Yeah, let's tell the Board of Trustees that we want to remove religion classes at BYU. But we still want that 85% tithing subsidy. I can't imagine they would have a problem with that.

Perfect. What's the next step, then?
