Regardless of whether the church covers for GAs who behave badly, I think it's better for all involved to simply release the person in question at the next general conference.

The transgendered male in our ward is subject to a lot of ridicule behind her back, but no outright condemnation. She's starting to look attractive, but still heavy 5 oclock shadow. She bares her testimony every month, referring obliquely to the Church being so loving and inclusive and everyone fitting into the big tent etc, without coming out and directly talking about transgendered saints. This past week when the ward was overflowing with visitors due to two baby blessings, she didn't bare her testimony at all. I think she is very considerate. The only awkward thing is during priesthood/RS she has nowhere to go, and ends up sitting in the foyeah. I dont think she can go to RS as long as she has the priesthood. And if she is exed and loses her priesthood, she cant attend church anyway. I think she has done nothing to warrant getting exed, she really is lovely.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

(Also "bare?" Yikes!)Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I can see why JL gets so cranky with you people at times. They are going to come down hard on GAs for mess-ups. The costs off not doing so are much, much greater than those that would give reason for a cover-up.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostCan you two clarify what you mean here? Specifically, can you give us examples of things he may have done that would normally result in a church court, but would not for a GA?

For the record: I am calling BS on this double standard you are implying.

I met Elder Hamula once. Nice guy. He has played some role in Jewish-Mormon relations (I believe as result of his previous law firm).Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Yes, the law firm of Gallagher & Kennedy is teeming with Irish-Jews.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostI can see why JL gets so cranky with you people at times. I don't know what the answer is here, and it's probably unknowable. I will say that I've seen enough from the church that it wouldn't surprise me if they handled GA discipline privily.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

Yeah, I read the Wikipedia page too. I'd be curious to know how the first presidency discovered the cohabitation.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostIt was 1943 and the excommunication was for having a second wife who he had "married" 18 years earlier. I was just confirming the dates, bro! I already knew the story. Also, one of the references on the Wikipedia page tells the story of how it was discovered. He was excommunicated one day later. I didn't remember that J-Rube had the SLC police bust down his door to catch him in the act.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostYeah, I read the Wikipedia page too. Maybe my favorite play of all time. I mean, Harvey steamrolling Utes into the end zone for the win was cool, Beck to Harline was cool, George running free was cool, Staley up the sideline was cool, and mind you I'm 100% a BYU fan first before Utah hater, but... we have never inflicted anything this utterly and thoroughly humiliating. So great.Originally posted by LVAllen View Post

Lest you forget the best part: Oregon returned that dropped ball 100 yards for a TD."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"
