If Sacrament Meeting is technically deemed as a Priesthood Meeting, and women can pray before and after, and if women can participate in the Priesthood Ordinances through their husband, can a lady pass, or bless, the Sacrament if she is doing it alongside her husband?
Is the line moving, or is it me?Last edited by clackamascoug; 10-07-2013, 11:55 AM.

Ha. Reminds of the time that I was teaching EQ on brig better husbands or fathers or something. In a total brain fart, I made the statement that my wife and I have developed several non traditional sex roles in our household."Originally posted by Flystripper View Post
Confession?
"Gender" definitely would have been the better term.

The line moves an inch or two every few years. We've still got another mile or so to go.Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostIf Sacrament Meeting is technically deemed as a Priesthood Meeting, and women can pray before and after, and if women can participate in the Priesthood Ordinances through their husband, can a lady pass, or bless, the Sacrament if she is doing it alongside her husband?

That's good to know, actually, since I've run into this myself. I even mentioned it years ago. I'm glad women are praying in GC now. Puts the whole thing to rest.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostThat's how our ward did it for a long time. But I always suspected it was a goofy tradition rather than policy.
Here is a little bit of interesting history on the women praying ban.

It's kind of amusing to see the hand-wringing over Packer's "unwritten order" talk, though. Any custom that gets made-up or misinterpreted by lay leadership somehow gets blamed on Packer. If you actually read the original talk, it's got a lot of very controversial stuff in it, like the presiding authority sitting on the stand, not aspiring to callings, and following your priesthood leadership. Funny how that's morphed into the scapegoat for any random custom that some Milquetoast Mormon might object to.Have we been commanded not to call a prophet an insular racist? Link?
