Yep, that's the right way to do it. We do it the same way: two individual members are asked to give the prayers. These two people aren't married to each other and their gender doesn't matter.

    • If Sacrament Meeting is technically deemed as a Priesthood Meeting, and women can pray before and after, and if women can participate in the Priesthood Ordinances through their husband, can a lady pass, or bless, the Sacrament if she is doing it alongside her husband?

Is the line moving, or is it me?

Ha. Reminds of the time that I was teaching EQ on brig better husbands or fathers or something. In a total brain fart, I made the statement that my wife and I have developed several non traditional sex roles in our household."

"Gender" definitely would have been the better term.

The line moves an inch or two every few years. We've still got another mile or so to go.

Here is a little bit of interesting history on the women praying ban.

That's good to know, actually, since I've run into this myself. I even mentioned it years ago. I'm glad women are praying in GC now. Puts the whole thing to rest.

It's kind of amusing to see the hand-wringing over Packer's "unwritten order" talk, though. Any custom that gets made-up or misinterpreted by lay leadership somehow gets blamed on Packer. If you actually read the original talk, it's got a lot of very controversial stuff in it, like the presiding authority sitting on the stand, not aspiring to callings, and following your priesthood leadership. Funny how that's morphed into the scapegoat for any random custom that some Milquetoast Mormon might object to.

Whomever is doing this whole Tex persona is hilarious, like the seriouslysoblessed blog. Congrats, very well done.

After Big D's talk, I figured you would spend the remaining bulk of your weekend deleting most of your old posts.
