Totally agree. This will be a long-term process.

If there's one bright spot in the letter, it's that it will make the process faster if anything. But it's already too late for a lot of people.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

      • Based on the meals my family has received from the relief society recently, the women of the church are failing in the kitchen. If they can't even get that right how can we expect them to play a larger role in a world wide organization?

Get your own house in order ladies, and then we will consider expanding your role.

You're assuming those women serving missions will stay after they've seen the man behind the curtain.

I'm afraid this transition will happen much like the blacks getting the priesthood, meaning that the change occurred, but the organization retained too much cultural memory and as a result we are still known as a racist organization. I know, I know, that's offensive to many here, but some of the most racist statements I've ever heard have been spoken by Mormons with good intentions.

The most racist statements I have ever heard came from my Baptist grandfather who also had good intentions. Maybe I should classify Baptists as a racist organization. My grandmother still uses words like "colored" "Negro" and "black". She is Catholic, seems I should also classify the Catholic church as a bunch of child molesting racists.

This is fun, who is next?

Everybody in America can trot out stories about the racist old people in their life. I'm talking about people your age and younger referring to African Americans as porch rats.

All women who hold officially sanctioned positions within OW, have a current temple recommend. They do not require the same of those who support them, but at least the leadership is comprised entirely of active, temple worthy women.

You're too pessimistic. Have hope, brother.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

MRD and I were discussing this last week in a bar in Vegas.

Will the large numbers of women serving missions undermine the current male-centered authority structures? (my opinion)

Or are serving these missions going to entrench, fortify & solidify a female base that is loyal to the current leadership? (MRD's opinion - he'll chime in if I got it wrong)

                        Or both?

What does one drink when discussing the social effects of Mormon women on missions? I'm guessing Sex On the Beach.

Or, will a good portion of them just decide to leave all together because they have lost the idealism of their youth

Unfortunately, this is what a lot of Mormons discuss in bars as they drown their apostate sorrows in liquor.

Thanks The word dead is especially scary to me at my tender age.

This is not directed to you as I didn't hear you say this. I find a comment that the women who believe in the current status quo are essentially brain washed dupes to be as offensive as my comment about the professor. A difference of opinion can come from two well informed thoughtful people. Thus I can see both points of view. If the church were a democracy I would vote women could have the Priesthood. It wouldn't be high on my priority list because it isn't high on the priority list of the women I associate with. If it is with women with whom others associate with I can accept why it would be important to them.
