The language isn't as crazy, but this letter came through official channels. That will haunt people in 50 years when their grandkids are pointing out the history of sexism in the church--it was institutionalized.

I bet if you did a poll prior to 1978 on blacks and the priesthood, you would have seen identical numbers.
    Exactly.
Ask the same thing after the change and these same women are going to talk about pulling over to the side of the road and weeping at hearing the news.

    • I'm going to go ahead and predict the catastrophic collapse of Mormonism within 30 years.

I do hope that BYU lives on in some capacity.

        Catastrophic?

This is great. I doubt my grandkids will have to search for an obscure PR spokesperson's response to OW to find out that women aren't (or weren't) ordained to the priesthood.

The Church is governed by common consent unless an enlightened vocal minority demand otherwise. After all, the 15 old guys running the Church are just sexists anyway, right?

Still struggling to see your point.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Institutionalized is the wrong word. "Doctrinal".

This is such a strange topic to be discussing in 2014. Maybe that means I should stay out of it.

I love the argument that because most of them don't want it (as if we could really know this), then everything's just fine.

Sexism is the racism of the 21st century and Mormons are on the wrong side of history. Again.

As a demonstration of our eagerness for the blessings and responsibilities of the priesthood, we will reverently seek admission to the priesthood session on Saturday, April 5th. We pray that our request will be reconsidered.

                              • I know many people want things to change tomorrow. Or even within the next year. Not going to happen. Be patient. More women serving missions will bring a revolutionary change, probably within ten years. This (women with true leadership responsibilities in The Church) needs to be socialized, and it will be.

Until then, quit whining. Our beloved Cougars are playing a bunch of ducks and nerds on Thursday.
