I know that many of the protesters are former members, but there are also many (including Kelly) that are faithful and active.

Exactly. This is dumb place to draw a line in the sand.

        • I love some of the comments to the article:

I honestly don't believe the letter will do any good, but I hope it does. I am saddened that these sisters want to ruin the Priesthood Session of Conference for our men and boys, but I also know that no unhallowed hand will prevail against the will and work of God — even if that hand comes from within the Church.
I liked the letter. The Ordain Women group have been clearly told that women ordination is against doctrine and the God revealed organization of the church. These women do not have any more excuses for their advocacy. Their efforts are now essentially apostasy and they are sowing the seeds of division among the church.
A person who truly understand the doctrine and scriptures and is truly converted would have no such concerns. As a woman, I value my own form of priesthood in the power of creation and nurturing. The Lord knows we women, by nature, do the service and nurturing and guidance that priesthood contains. I also know all things will be clear to me one day that I do not understand and that the brethren are not making decisions, God is. These people are attention-seeking trouble makers, not interested in dialogue. They have a choice, they can leave the Church. When I disagreed with my previous church, I simply left it 35 years ago.
Was the Savior a bigot because he didn't ordain women and marry gays? Ordain Women and other liberal LDS groups need to stop judging the Church by the standards of the world. Instead, judge the world by the standards of the Lord's Church.
As a woman in the Church, I think we have plenty and too many responsibilities and things to do right now. Why would I want to have the Priesthood on top of that? Why would I want to be a bishop? or a stake president? with power comes responsibilities and I don't think they even have an idea what they are asking for. They don't even care that yes, the majority, do not agree with their agenda and are trying to drag us in regardless we don't want to. If the majority was asking for, then go ahead, but they do not have the vote of the majority. Why are they even trying?

Over. Christ is coming back before then to set these uppity women straight.

The easiest thing to do would have been to simply let them into the meeting. Zero story, zero cause to complain, and the strong possibility of good PR.

that women are encouraged to watch the session elsewhere but not at temple square simply means that the top brass are digging in their heels just to dig them in. They don't want to be told what to do. It has nothing to do with the content of the meetings.

How could they not see this? "Hey, women that gave us bad PR last year - why don't you go stand with all those people who don't want to come in and hear but rather just want to wave garments at us. You are more like them than us." Yeah, that's going to get received well.

I sincerely hope every single OW attendee gets arrested for trespassing ot something with great fanfare. It's the only thing I can think of that would be worse for the church on this front.

                  • Only one reason why the church would publicize the letter. Because they believe they will win the PR battle with the majority of women members, and the fallout from the 'fringe' will be minimal. It's probably a very safe bet.

Again I agree with you. If inactive (non TR holding) men can come, if non member men can come, then what is the big deal with women coming? There aren't going to be thousands of them and in the minds of many, even someone like me who says let them come, they will just look like petty trouble makers.

I can't come up with a good reason to tell them no unless it is just to show them who has the clout and I think that is a poor reason.

why is it so hard to imagine that the reason women do not have the priesthood is not simply because the leaders are sexist and or havent asked if women can get the priesthood? and why is it a big deal to save tickets for those the meeting is intended for.

Because there is no longer the opportunity to "believe" if that belief goes against political correctness.

That being said, the response also is lacking in my opinion. Letting them come to the meeting doesn't mean they will get the Priesthood. They will get the Priesthood when a large enough number of them talk their husbands into finding a church they can both attend and believe in.

This is going to be a PR nightmare if the media runs with it.
