I know several Marxist, and they are none of what you mentioned, nor do they seek out those people. They do find common ground with many well-educated people, because, heaven forbid, those people actually read and think about policies and ideas and how they affect others. There's a reason that many well-educated people are liberals or moderates, and it doesn't have a damned thing to do with indoctrination.

I'm no Marxist, not even close, but the Marxists I know are decent hard-working human beings who think that their ideas can make an end of suffering. They donate tons of their time and money to charity and they give away many of their ideas to the public domain. One of my best friends is a Leftist Marxist and I'd trust him with my life.
Well maybe the ones you know just happen to be Ivy League educated. My list didn't state that Marxists had to be all three. I was just pointing out the main demographic groups that are attracted to Marxism.

Food storage sucks! Well, it's good counsel but I hate when people that follow the "one-year counsel" move into the ward. Granted I only have about a three month supply, if that.

I also find it funny that so people have such weird things in their storage. Wheat, seriously? Why would anyone have wheat? We just have flour, which lasts at least 10 years. We cycle through the flour every couple years to keep it fresh. It's nice having things that we [will] actually use in our food storage.

It's only a matter of time before the MLM food storage places start popping up, in fact I can't believe they haven't already started.

I learned that you can live for two years on rice and beans, which are a lot tastier than wheat. Hence, the food storage that we have is rice and beans.

Man cannot live by bread alone, but you can do really well with rice and beans.

Oh, and I have about 12 big boxes of iodized salt. Rice without salt isn't as good.

My parents have pretty consistently kept at least a 6 month food storage for as long as I can remember them having a place to put it. I also remember us more or less living on the food storage for about 5 months when my dad was opening his own derm practice.

I liked that we had a bunch of stuff that we actually used. I think the biggest problem for a lot of people is two-fold 1) the cost is prohibitive and 2) nowhere to store it. We have nowhere to keep a year's supply in our apartment. I try to build up by buying two of whatever canned good I'm purchasing. It works well for our purposes.

I can see the need for some food storage but I wonder about these people that have a basement like "Blast from the Past" and end up throwing out tons of food. This is another area where I believe the saying "Moderation in all things" applies.

I think food storage is a really good idea. It gets my Apostate Stamp of Approval. Of course a year supply of food means very little if you only have a week supply of potable water.

Hence the justification for building a swimming pool

It happened about three years ago - school was in Highland, with students living in Highland, Alpine & Lehi. The storm dumped about 8 inches of snow between 3 pm & 6pm, and had 50+ mph winds associated with it, blowing more snow down from the top of the mountain. Highland Highway was closed as soon as the snow started falling - so much snow was falling/drifting that plows couldn't keep it clear. I-15 closed both in both directions at the point of the mountain.

All of the elementary school kids in our ward attended that school. They all eventually made it home that night - six or seven guys with snowmobiles ferried kids back from the school (about 8 miles away) until everyone got home.

Eventually there were 8-foot drifts on Highland Highway - which was finally opened at about 10am the next morning...

Apparently I was wrong about overnight. It was only until 10.PM I believe their were other schools in the area where buses had to turn around and go back to the school and they were there stuck over night.

This is a charter school though and I don't think most of the kids live close to it. We don't live that close. But my kid did make it home on time.

Traverse mountain can be pretty nasty during a snow storm. They have to shut down the Alphine highway quite often.
Actually, you weren't wrong. There were kids stuck at the school all night.

There sure haven't been any calamities around the world or a financial crisis in the US.

You're an idiot. Of course there have been calamities. Didn't you hear about hurricanes Katrina, Rita, & Ike? What about Haiti? The tsunami in Indonesia? Have you been living under a rock?

One of those blue water barrels is enough to keep someone alive for a couple months - even in the summer. That gives you a couple months to figure out another way to get water.

We have one per person (including MiL!) in the basement. And the Provo River Canal - which could flow all year if they wanted it to - 100 yards from our backdoor.
