I wondered about this. Can the Bishop force the two groups to meet together?

We have a pretty small HP quorum in our ward. Probably only 4 or 5 active HPs (young ward + many of our other HPs are in stake callings that take them out of the ward). The two quorums meet together, except for a new change where the first Sunday of the month when they meet as separate quorums. I think the EQP and HPGL ran this new arrangement by the Bishop, but I think it was more of a "this is our plan" sort of or comment.

I would assume the EQP would have enough authority to make a change and meet separately if he felt it would help he and the Elders to fulfill their priesthood duties.

There are some people that seek to teach the gospel lessons and have all kinds of weird ideas. Try to keep them from teaching. I mentioned once the legend that Shem and Melchezedik were the same person and someone matter of factly said they weren't since Melchezedik was translated. Were does it say Shem wasn't.

Then went off on how when the Ten Tribes return they will bring there scriptures. Legends about that. They will be restored are not hiding and we will have there record? Did the Lamanites bring us the Book of Mormon are did we take it to them. Revelation comes through appropriate channels.

Someone once was told to stick to the scriptures. There are some High Priests that know all the answers it seems like. They just happen to beleive every Legend out there as gospel fact.

There are many people, likely including people on this forum, who will admit to believing the 'White Horse Prophecy", wherein people will be murdered on the steps of the temple, the US Constitution will be hanging by a thread, and a Mormon will save the nation. Was that revelation ever canonized? Is it recognized today?

Rhetorical question: How many people who believe this prophecy and think it applies to Mitt Romney, would be stunned to see Harry Reid save the nation? (hat tip to Uncle Ted)

What does this nation need to be saved from? If anything, it is Harry Reid...

It was a rhetorical question. Insert any Democrat into the same question: Jim Matheson, Tom Udall (NM), Leonard Boswell (Iowa), Eli Faleomaveaga from Samoa, etc. (thanks Google)

I agree with you here Grape. Almost every week I just want to tell someone in HP group that their is no way they could know that. They just throw out crazy stuff as fact.

Same with my HPG. It amazes what kind of stuff they can throw out with absolute certainty.

                      I said "likely", not "definitely".

It is likely that we will find people in nearly any HP quorum who believe said prophecy. I was curious whether people who believe the prophecy (and perhaps 'prophecy' should be in quotes), could believe that a non-Republican would fulfill it.

Mormon Expression is scheduled to record a podcast on the white horse prophecy some this month I think. Should be interesting.

It wouldn't surprise me if the White Horse prophesy turned out to be true, wholly by accident. Constitution hanging by a thread can be read to mean the country on the brink of totalitarianism. Odds are strong this will happen sometime in the future. In the 100 thousand years of human history how many years have we had of liberty and representative government somewhere on the planet guaranteed in a Constitution? Further, you see what seems inevitably to happen to such forms of government. See for example what happened to the Athenians, the Roman Republic, the Weimar repulic, etc.

Further, it's not implausible that a "white horse" politician battling against this dangerous situation would come from the conservative or (probably more likely these days, with the religious right's influence over consrvative politics) libertarian wing of U.S. politics. As we've seen, Mormonism produces more than its share of high profile politicians sensitive to libertarian or conservative mores (e.g., Reid the Senate majority leader, plus two presidential candidates, including the apparent or erstwhile front runner).

This would have nothing to do with God, however.

I only brought it up because I know people at church and within my family who hint at Romney fulfilling the prophecy. I think the belief is widespread. And I also think that most people who hold that belief will deny that a Democrat could fulfill it.

Sorry for the threadjack, SIEQ. The best advice in this thread was to split the quorums. Second option is the one I took, and go help in the Primary. But then again, it is so comfortable sitting in the cozy chairs in the HC room that sleeping would be easier there than on the Samsonite metal folding chairs in the gym.

SU is already starting to downplay the fulfillment of the White Horse Prophecy.

I remember the guy who told me about the white horse prophecy. He was convinced it meant that the entire banking system was going to collapse because of Y2k. He was very vocal and took steps accordingly. I moved in November of 1999, so I never did find out how he spun that.
