You need to leave the LDS church forever right now. I don't see how you can abide this insult. I don't preceive any way they can udo this offense. Their failure to tak to you afterward also says everything you need to know about their level of desire that you remain.

I love our HP group. They are MUCH less uptight than the elders. Seem to be fairly open to new ideas and diverse thoughts. We have some folks who are very conservative and like to pass out Ezra Taft Benson political propaganda, but they don't attack those who comment with more liberal ideas - I can' recall there ever being a situation in which a couple of people to made opposing comments and there was an argument - folks seem to accept opposing points of view and another perspective and something for consideration.

I've been with the youth for a little bit and haven't attended in a while - but I seem to remember it being fairly low key with most folks just being excited to participate on occasion without having to give the lesson. In all honesty - I can't even point out one person who would have any desire to hold a leadership position. These guys are pretty down to earth - though they do include some past bishops and stake presidency members.

The best part about this statement is that if I was doing my absolute best to come up with some sort of sarcastic comment - I still couldn't have written a better one than this.

        Well Done!

A lot of the HPs in my ward are crazy or senile and no one takes the more extreme ones seriously. One guy lectured my husband from the pulpit for wearing only a white shirt and tie (no jacket). This is the same guy who always takes the men to task for something every testimony meeting, and praises the women for being more holy than the men.

SIQ, this is a perfect time to suggest a move to seperate classrooms. I was EQ Pres in a ward very similar to yours and despite 4-6 active Elders, most of whom were UofU students living with parents only temporarily, we met seperately and tried our very best to fulfill our responsibilities.

For whatever reason there is a disconnect between the groups and pride is the most common ingredient. In our ward they resented our inability to home teach the 80 or so families assigned to our group and we resented the fact that we were dismissed from most discussions. The bishop agreed to lower our HT to only 8 families for each companionship, still too many, and the HP took the rest.

The HP also truly felt the scriptures were lost on the young. When we did infrequently meet together there were often "harumphs" from the older crowd on modern interpretation of scripture or the ever popular "ours is not to question why" response. I even felt they thought we weren't fully invested in church for using electronic devices for our scriptures. Weird modern dynamic but I think it's a true divider.

Split the quorums. The EQ is an independent quorum and its president holds keys (unlike the HPGL). No reason for the elders to be under the high priests' thumbs.

This is very true. For some reason, I've been thinking a lot about this today.

I was in a ward where a similar situation occurred over the SP's plea for donations to stop some Indian gaming initiatives in the area. An older elder spoke up and questioned whether this was appropriate conversation for priesthood and a bunch of HPs lit into him (there was history there).

This poor guy was polite in his question and the strong response was not merited. The elder didn't come to church for about six weeks (which was even more tricky, since he was an employee at a church university). Luckily, the bishop was once wise dude and didn't go on a witch hunt.

Anyhow, the situation seemed touch n' go for a while, and I hate it when we Mormons turn on each other over a difference of opinion.

Let's not pull political parties into this. There are too many quotes from well know republican church leaders (e.g. Benson) that can be used here. Besides old-school Democrats were pretty much Libertarians anyways.

Yeah, have your EQP tell those HP's to STFU until their president cares enough to show up to the meeting.
