  • Temple Recommend

I recently had an interview to renew my temple recommend. I had the standard interview with the member of the Bishopric. Then I met with a member of the SP. At the end of the interviews standard questions he said, "I would like to ask you some other questions, if I may?"

I was okay with that and some of the questions I found to be not out of the ordinary, for this type of an interview. The one question that struck me a bit odd was when he asked if my wife was a stay-at-home mom.

Why would that matter, especially for a temple recommend?

I would agree, besides the fact that I was just set apart for a new calling. He is the one that set me apart.

Then my second question would be, what calling would necessitate my wife being a stay-at-home- mom?

Maybe he is sizing HER up for RS president? Wants to find out if she has the time to give to the calling?

Are you new? Is he new? We were asked those same kinds of questions recently, but it was in a "getting to know you" type manner.

It has nothing to do with a temple recommend.

He thinks your wife is hot and wants to know when she is home and you are gone.

As creek said, he was sizing you up for a calling. I think its best practice if he signs your recommend and gives it back to you before going into his other questions.

They disfavor working women. They wanted to know if your wife is a potential trouble maker.

they're such dorks. they could have asked that matter of factly as they were seeing you to the door.
