This is why I love creekster. It's a great image of him sneaking out to the barn to smoke a reefer, maybe light off some illegal firecrackers, and to read a little Brodie.

I believe that he didn't think it was that edgy. Brodie has some crazy conclusions in there that make it harder to take the whole book seriously.

(Don't get me wrong, NMKMH is a hugely important work.)

      • Mormon Stories released it's financials today:

        http://openstoriesfoundation.org/finances/

In 2011 John Dehlin received $37,473.32 in gross salary as Executive Director of the foundation. $20,000 of that was owed to John for the previous year’s salary (2010) which was deferred by John until a board of directors was established. John also receives no benefits from the foundation, so his total net salary after insurance for 2011 was $12,541.

For 2012 John Dehlin’s salary has been set by the board of directors at $40,000.

        • How do you get on this board of directors? Sounds like a sweet gig.

Was it feeling pressure from Newt Gingrich or something?

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I think you have to be invited. Two CUFers are on it, I believe (not me or Super).

I never claimed that it was universally true, just that most Mormons don't get to it, especially if they have any concern (or if they've been taught to be wary) over losing their testimony by reading anti-Mormon literature.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

It sounds like the BoD doesnt get a penny. Dehlin however has had an interesting salary arc.

That's a good step, but calling those "financial statements" is misleading. A proper set of financial statements would include a cash flows statement, some sort of statement of equity (or net assets), and notes. At least they are disclosing John's salary.

It would also be nice to have an audit opinion attached to them to add credibility

Well at least if you believe he is telling the truth and there isn't any hidden comp in company expenses you can rest assured that he is working for peanuts even after his raise. He does not appear to be living fat on people's donations.

So I should just have faith and believe John is not lying

                          • Is there some legal reason he needs to have a board of directors and disclose his financials? Is MormonStories organized as some not-for-profit group?
