But to me, and I freely admit this is just my opinion, MS is not a great cause. Gandhi promoted a great cause. Jesus promoted a great cause. Martin Luther King was a great cause. John Dehlin has put together a helpful group.I guess I missed it.Originally posted by creekster View PostYou think this is a great cause? I think it might be a helpful group, but in my mind it falls far short of a great cause.
helpful group = important?

Nobody knows this, which is one of the problems. I just assume all the speakers get something. I mean, it's obvious Dan Witherspoon gets compensated. John Dehlin gets compensated. But no one knows how much. Was Dehlin's trip to NYC a boondoggle paid for my MS or did it come from his own pocket? Actually that question is irrelevant as they are one in the same....thus the issue.Originally posted by SuperGabers View PostThose who participated in the DC Conference did not get compensated. John's airfare was taken care of, however, which seems reasonable as any organization would probably do that.
A set salary with financial disclosures would go a long way but the MS board wants to keep that under wraps apparently. I just found that interesting given the multiple times I've heard people complain on MS (FB site and website) about the lack of financial disclosure by the lds church."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Different people in the group are going to have different opinions on the matter. When you can identify specific people who argue that the church should be more open with their financials, but MS should be closed, and if you can nail them down as saying that MS and the Mormon church are the same kind of financial entity regarding their ethical obligations to keep transparent ledgers, THEN you might have a point. Otherwise you are just dropping the word 'hypocritical' like a fart in their locker room.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostYou mean they are being hypocritcal? Weird.

Nonsense. I would be shocked if there was more than a tiny handful of people in that group that believe the church should not disclose financials.Originally posted by RobinFinderson View PostDifferent people in the group are going to have different opinions on the matter. That is beside the point. The question is whether or not the word 'hypocrisy' applies to some, all, or none of the group.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostNonsense. My point is simply this -- no one has made a case for hypocrisy.
