I would be astounded if that were true.

Not that I claim to be an expert on the topic of the family life of Elder Nelson, of course.

Was it Cook who essentially said the opposite? Something to the effect of how we shouldn't judge women who choose to work outside the home? IIRC, it was more positive toward women with careers than I worded it.

But since Oaks is the senior...sorry, QLC.

Down with women who choose careers!

          Yes... It was Cook.

Haven't heard the Oaks talk yet, so I don't know what his context is.

I didn't hear the Oaks talk either, so it surprised me to come to CUF and see this stuff.

I work with a lot of guys that worked with him and maybe they are exaggerating about how hard they worked at the time.

Surgeons of his era generally worked ridiculous hours -- I'm making an assumption that he did too. I know for sure that Dr. Nelson even did his own angiograms, something the cardiac surgeons now have cardiologists do for them.

If you say he didn't work that much, then you're obviously right and I'm wrong.

I agree. I didn't take it bad at all but will admit I wasn't totally paying attention after everyone laughed. I was thinking about how I liked that after reading the young lady's letter kind of ripping the men, he turned it around a bit. I basically got the impression that he was telling us to worry about ourselves and watch what we do and make sure our desires are prioritized correctly.

Am I the only who watches conference these days with my antennae up for "the talk"? You know, the one that will have CUF ablaze for days one end.

                        Elder Nelson:

I gained appreciation for this miracle early in my research career when I was working in the laboratory to create an artificial heart-lung machine. Whenever tubing in that machine would spring a leak, it meant long hours cleaning up the lab, and I came home late for dinner.
However much he worked, I'm pretty sure it would qualify as "prioritizing career over family" if he were a woman.

Oaks used the mormon word in reference to people.

                          BKP forbids it.

Wonder if they had words after.

Yes, probably true. I think the church is rather unapologetic about gender differences in the division of labor.
                            PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Thanks to GC, I now know there is a difference between a Cardiologist and a Cardiac Surgeon.

Oh, I'm sure you'd know better than me. I'll say, though, that notwithstanding the number of hours, you'll not likely ever find a family member who ever felt like he prioritized his career over his family. And I bet you couldn't say the same for many men who worked far fewer hours.
