I'm still scratching my head about this talk. He started out with tyndale, then moved to that little bit of information, and finally finished with "let it be."Originally posted by Donuthole View PostI walked in and Packer was talking about how we need to refer to ourselves as "Latter-Day Saints" and not "mormons". Sounds like I chose the right session to miss.Originally posted by pellegrino View PostI'm still scratching my head about this talk. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

What I don't understand is this. You have 20 minutes to speak to the membership of the church. You ponder what will be the thing you can talk about that will most inspire and help bring them to Christ. And you come up with "call yourselves LDS not Mormon". WTF?Originally posted by Donuthole View PostI walked in and Packer was talking about how we need to refer to ourselves as "Latter-Day Saints" and not "mormons". There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

There was a talk a couple years ago where the speaker recapped Black Hawk Down. I even think it was an apostle. Good movie and good talk.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostDid Elder Oaks watch 127 Hours??????

In his defense, i think you probably prioritize and cherish fatherhood over your career. I'll have to go back and re-listen/read to see if he was talking about women with careers, or only those who choose a career over motherhood.Originally posted by pellegrino View Postas I heard it he ripped not only women with careers but women who desired careers over motherhood.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

the difference is that in Mormonism a career is an intrinsic element of fatherhood. It's difficult for some to separate the two.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostIn his defense, i think you probably prioritize and cherish fatherhood over your career. No, it was definitely just women who prioritize a career over motherhood.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostIn his defense, i think you probably prioritize and cherish fatherhood over your career. But I'm pretty sure Dr. Russell Nelson worked 80+ hour weeks from his 20s into his 50s and nobody ever accused him of prioritizing career over fatherhood.
