Hey I’m here for the LaBarge hate. It is a hole. most of my family vacations centered around where my dad wanted to fish. He loved fishing at LaBarge Creek, and it wasn’t too far from Green River where we lived. We had a Vanagon and would camp there. We must have went there at least 5 times. And the years we didn’t we went up to Yellowstone.

            • This is our first Easter with our current bishopric. I was pleased to learn that they are firmly in the More Singin' Less Yappin' school of thought. Our hymn selection:

                • I learned that even on Easter, the topic given to the sacrament meeting speakers was not necessarily focused on Christ. Thankfully the last speaker used half of his talk to speak on Easter, and then spent the other half talking about whatever the given topic was, which I can’t remember but it had to do with family history. The odd thing is that the choir sang two Easter songs, but they seemed out of place due to the topic.

Our bishopric over the last five years has struggled to find its footing but I’ve given them tons of grace because they are trying and Covid made it difficult, not to mention the elimination of YM presidencies. It probably doesn’t help that the bishop has 11 kids and they span ages from 20 years old down to 2 years old. We also had a bishopric counselor whose wife went inactive while he was serving (they have a gay son and I think certain things just broke for her).

During CFM last week, we talked about some of the traditional Easter holidays (Palm Sunday, Shrove Tuesday, Maundy Thursday (ha!), Good Friday). It made me lament, not for the first time, the fact that we just don't do much to celebrate one of the biggest, if not the biggest, Christian holiday. Outside of sharing "He Is Risen" pics and hashtags on social media, our celebration seems limited to a few hymns and some ham and funeral potatoes on Sunday.

                    Bums me out a little.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I’m fine with the little bit of celebration we do during the week. I don’t care much for the rigid ritualness of it all, but I can see how others would want that. I’ve even got family members that observe lent to some degree (I think my sister gave up Disney+ or something like that). We, as a family, have some traditions we do and they’ve never included the Easter bunny, even when the kids were little. They still did egg hunts and got candy but the Easter bunny was never involved.

I did spend the entire week in seminary having lessons on Christ and the Holy Week and concluded the weeks lessons by watching The Lamb of God. IMO, it was the best week of seminary and coincided perfectly with the Passover and exodus study.

I guess I just get bummed when I compare Christmas to Easter. Christmas builds up for the whole month (I get that the shopping season and gift giving magnify it a ton), with christmas choirs and nativities and family parties, etc., while the other is plastic eggs and throw-away baskets and fake grass.

Part of the problem might be that I never actually know when Easter is. We should make it like Thanksgiving and fix it on the 3rd Sunday of March or something.

                                So you want to:

                                A) Broaden and further emphasize Easter religious traditions
                                B) Decouple Easter and Passover

Just making sure I am clear
