Does your wife know about that?Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostSleeping with someone on the ward council has benefits
Not if they don't consummate the marriage.Originally posted by SandYFan View PostSo you're splitting hairs. This goes for every sin ever, right?
Working from the frame of reference that someone has been taught that homosexual intercourse is a sin, entering into gay marriage means you are unrepentant about engaging in the act, and as such, God is super mad at you and your progression is stopped. Hence my use of the word damned."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

This goes back to some teachings that God looks upon all sins equally. I don't know where that teaching originated or if it is actually still taught.Originally posted by SandYFan View PostYou really think someone in a committed, legal homosexual relationship is doing the same wrong as of someone who lies, steals or commits adultery?
In my own thinking it is ridiculous to teach that. All sins are equal is nuts.

Okay, I get that, but you're still saying someone in a committed, legal marriage to someone of the same sex is doing wrong.Originally posted by byu71 View PostThis goes back to some teachings that God looks upon all sins equally. Just because a bishop or stake president begins disciplinary action (without any input from SLC) does not necessarily mean that the hypothetical abstinent married gay couple "are unrepentant about engaging in the act".Originally posted by SandYFan View PostI'm not entirely sure about that. Would the church pursue disciplinary action to a couple who entered a gay marriage but promised they weren't engaging in sexual acts? Hmmm.
Don't try to dismiss your coffee drinking. You are separated from the presence of God just as much as if you'd killed someone.Originally posted by BlueK View PostRanking them from 1-1000 doesn't make any sense. I would presume the same principles of malum in se and malum prohibitum apply to sins as well- some will prevent your divine progress outright because they are contrary to the character of a being in harmony with the laws of the universe and some are mere acts of disobedience."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! That's true if there was no atonement or if I don't repent. And I'm probably committing the sin of pride by giving this disclaimer, but I've never been a coffee drinker. Unlike most perhaps, the mere smell of coffee makes me feel like vomiting. Although I admit I do regularly disobey other commandments.Originally posted by Pelado View PostDon't try to dismiss your coffee drinking. And at least from the perspective of LDS doctrine/practice, which I don't know if you're arguing from or not -- at least in practice, it's a little harder to repent from murder than from coffee drinking. I don't think think that's really even debateable. I guess from there you could go the direction of arguing that it shouldn't take any more effort to get back in the good graces of the church after committing murder than any other sin, but clearly that isn't the way it is currently. Now if I were an evangelical the transition back to the good graces of my church/christian community might be smoother, but even that would probably be a little dicey. It's a little more defined or clear cut in LDS practice because we have rules around qualifying for a temple recommend or other privileges.
