Or in other words, as a counselor in the bishopric once said referring to his wife when asked about an activity over which she had charge, "You know Marci, anything worth doing is worth overdoing."

This happened not on the WF, but in the good ole 907.

    • I've been a Primary teacher a couple of times, and have developed a sure fire method of total class participation and learning. I'd pin a dollar on the cork above the board, and say "who wants to play Cash and Prizes?" Whoever got the most points at the end of the class got the dollar. When word got back to the Primary President that Brother Clack was keeping track of points and giving money to the winner, she came to my house for a talk. I asked her what her objectives were for the class, and she told me. I said, Come to my class this week and see for yourself what is going on, and tell me if I'm meeting or exceeding the expectations the Lord would have me accomplish. The next Sunday she sat in the back of the room and watched as every kids opened the scriptures, every kid read a verse, every kid shot their hands up to answer questions, every kid got a chance to say what was in their heart (I call that the lightning round), and every kid got to repeat at least one of the Articles of Faith. After class she said that she wished someone like me could teach every class, and that she had so much fun, that she could see why the kids in my class loved Primary.

A couple of weeks ago one of "my" primary kids came home from his mission, and he said to me.. "You were my favorite teacher growing up." To me that meant that he enjoyed coming to church, and I've always felt that the first step to gaining a testimony is not hating to go to church. If you don't mind being there you can assimilate a lot of information.

I had a return missionary tell me something similar recently. He told me that I made "going to scouts fun". I don't know if that helped him decide to go on a mission but maybe it helped him stick around long enough to get his eagle rank. Of course, I like to think that prepared him for something.

        • With all the discussion about primary, I will just say my current primary teaching calling is the best calling I've ever had. I could do this until I give up the Ghost. I couldn't give a shit if my teaching partner shows up on Sunday or not. What a great calling.

            Agreed. Primary is awesome.
            Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Yep. I team taught sunbeams with my wie for the first 2 years we were married and it was awesome. The only calling that has compared is my current one where I can leave class to disassemble doorknobs when people get locked in bathrooms.

Also, I lack sympathy for members of the Primary Presidency that have to teach a class once in a while. Primary Presidency is the cushiest job in the church.

Only in ward buildings that no longer have bells. In the ones that do, Counselor in the SS presidency/bell ringer still owns that title.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

                  • Not sure why everyone digs Pri so much. I was really bored with it after a few months, couldn't wait to be released. At the end of the year, the bishop asked all the teachers if they wanted to go another year and I said no. I was released and couldn't be happier to be out of there.

There are certain odors that never leave your memory and that always seem to remain constant over time. One of those is the main admin building at the MTC. Another one is the Wilkinson Center. Wilk air smells the same year in and year out for some reason. You could be blindfolded and go into the Wilk and when that rush of air hits you, the smell is unmistakable. Unfortunately, not all smells are pleasant or conjure up good memories. Im talking about Pri. That main singalong room in winter has a really distinct odor and it isn't good. When it is filled with kids It is like petting zoo trouble. I'm really glad I was released from Pri.

Why do I dig it? Because most four year olds are cute little farts and they make me laugh. The fact that I don't have any extra meetings on Sunday or during the week is a huge bonus as well.

                      • Put me on the list as one who does not enjoy the primary calling, or daycare.

I guess that is where we differ. Aside from agreeing with you on the fart aspect, my experience has been that Small children aren't really that funny, at least not on a weekly basis for years on end.

There are plenty of callings without Sunday meetings or midweek meetings.

That's fair. While I really enjoy the primary, I can understand why some people wouldn't like it. Having said that, if we want to continue this discussion, I think it would be more apporopriate to do so in the "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" thread.

                              • I love primary. Class time is great. Singing/sharing time is a complete drag but still better than EQ.
