  • I learned that I have just enough time to drive home after sacrament, eat something, throw meat on the smoker and be back just in time for priesthood.

I learned this long ago. However, i must live closer to the church than you, as I have time to watch about 25 mins of golf, also.

      • I learned, actually remembered, that the testimony meeting right after youth conference is equal parts hilarious and annoying.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

We got a similar question today ("have any of you been persecuted?"). A young couple related how when they got married they decided that they were going to maintain a certain level of righteous in their marriage and when they get together with their active LDS friends their friends sometimes act surprised with some of the standards and rules they have set.

            • The SP and his 1st Counselor were on the stand for our open mic Sunday. The parade of Melch PH to the mic was truly something to behold. Seriously, the primary kids couldn't get a word in edgewise.

That's great stuff. "higher standards than the averagely active LDS" is about as righteous as one can get.

I guess Mauss was right about setting up extra rules in order to feel exclusive.

Yes, it's the kind of thinking that results in people wearing their "church clothes" all day long on Sundays, and looking down on those who do otherwise.

A few days ago my wife was traveling with friend and a surburban full of 10 year old girls. The girls were watching a DVD while the two adults were up front. The movie was playing on the surburban speakers so everyone could hear.

At one point, my wife's friend heard something she didn't care for, so she paused her conversation with my wife and turned to the girls in back and asked them if the movie they were watching was appropriate. She then lectured them on making good media choices.

The movie they were watching: Madasgascar.

Yep. And she raised her hand again to let us know that even though the persecution was difficult, she felt that they had been blessed in many ways for their extra measure of righteousness.

Makes you wonder what extra blessings she is receiving right now because of the persecution she is suffering on this board.

I shed upon entering my abode. Anything "long" sleeved, legged, or johns is shelved, hung up, or put in the clothes hamper.

I do that myself quite often, especially if I have lots of meetings. I don't think it makes me more righteous, though, and I doubt your boys do either!
