The only app on his iPad?

Looks like Elder Oaks is still lying for the Lord.
At least we now have tacit approval to ditch the heavy scripts for iPad-exclusivity. (FTR, i've been doing this since Christmas, but it is still frowned upon by many, for whatever reason).
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

You'd think God could give them some great answers in a jiffy.

I think (hope?) you are right.

            • Taking DHo at face value, it is an incredible w.a.s.t.e. of funds to buy an iPad simply to replace your scriptures. If you are legitimately only using it to replace your sticks, it is faster and easier to use the actual books themselves.

I honestly think technology has factored into increased church attendance world wide.
You assume the church is full of irrational weirdos. If you go to church to play on your ipad for 3 hours, your attending church is irrational. You could be sitting at home, watching TV and playing on you ipad at the same time. That's what a rational person would do.

You can't think of any other costs to that action which might balance the equation?

                  • I just want to say that I used to hate GD until my ward called someone into the position of teacher that also likes bible commentaries and isn't afraid to point out how ridiculous teachings of the past really were. It's nice to have someone teach that isn't afraid to say that the Gospels were written anonymously or that the 5 books of Moses were not written by Moses.

Too bad he only teaches every other week
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

me thinks this has great possible potential for its own thread; "Which Apps do the Twelve have?"

You know Uchtdorf has some sort of flight simulator/cool stuff pilots say program.

And one of the twelve has Pixilate/Photoshop. Someone had to provide a visualization of what it would look like to cover up bare shoulder and take wings off of an angel.

Easy there, Mr. Literal. A rational person would also conclude you don't have a sense of humor.

It's all blown out of the water now, but we did have an AA tell us that people should not bring their iPads to the pulpit to give talks. About a month later a GA showed up and used his iPad exclusively during training and talks he gave. He also commented on what a boon it was to him.

I never take paper scriptures to church with me any more. I take notes in bishopric and ward council meetings on my iPad, send e-mails right away to ward and stake members about what we are discussing, look up addresses and MIS information on the spot, etc. It's a great tool.

I still like paper books and do like to thumb through my paper scriptures. The search function on the iPad version can't be beat, however.

Could be. We should do a poll.
