Pres. Uchtdorf's talk was impressive in both its intellectual and spiritual force. I've never heard the virtue of patience tied to so many other Gospel principles in that way. It was truly an enlightening talk, full of "aha!" moments for me.

I wonder if they'd ever allow a GA to be known as Elder L.A. Ute? Or maybe Elder L. Angeles Ute?

How about Elder M. Red Death

Said that the healing of the sick occurs in and outside of the Church as a manifestation of faith. That God recognizes the faith of all. Said we are to seek the best medical remedies before seeking blessings. He said the power is in the ordinance and not the blessing that follows unlike other blessings like a patriarchal blessing. Said that faith is the force that leads to healings. But also said that it is contingent upon the will of God. Some are appointed to death and no matter who gives the blessing and despite faith strong enough to wrought miracles will make these whole.

Uchtodorf spoke on having patience. It resonated with me as it's something my 4 year old has been testing mightily.
Those two talks stood out to me as well. Also, I appreciated Elder Rasband relating the story about he and Eyring assigning missionaries to their various missions.

In regard to Uchtdorf's talk, it made me reflect on my life a bit - I've long known patience is one of my weaknesses, but listening to his talk, I realized that nearly every major regret (perhaps, even every one) or hardship I've had in my life can be tied directly to a lack of patience on my part.

FWIW, I have to say Elder S. Mountain Rain has a certain ring to it.

Keep your takes on the talks coming... Then I won't have to read the Ensign when it comes out...

I watched the afternoon session. For some reason, I paid a lot of attention to Mr. Aoyagi's talk. Pretty good. And Mr. Holland's talk was good as well. I didn't pay as much attention to the actual content as I did how they were presented, and what I perceived to be their personalities/speaking style. Both were very warm, down-to-earth, and conversational. Mr. Holland's line that "you don't welcome in (evil forces, or something; I don't remember the precise term), give them tea and crumpets, and show them where the silverware is. You kick them out. Besides, you shouldn't be serving them tea, anyway." was genuinely funny.

Overall, I tuned most of it out (like I recently have with any church presentation, LDS or otherwise), but I can definitely see the value in such an exercise for Mormon folks.

They usually don't call AA's as general authorities, so I think I'm set.

Good, but would you consider it to be an opus?

I like the name of this thread. It's like the antagonists have made a sport out of GC, the Conference Open.

Am I wrong is wanting something a little meatier from Pres. Monson? With everything that is going on it just seemed like Mormon Lite.

Not a General Authority. Area Authority. Yet more evidence: AA= not GA.

Like Monson, I thought that was one of the best PS I have ever attended. I thought Elder Oaks' talk was incredible. As was Elder Uchtdorf's. In fact Gidget made a quip about porn talks as I was heading out the door and I told her that I need a patience talk. Trust me that I sat upright as soon as Uchtdorf started talking.
Elder Oak's talk was perhaps one of the most practical and most welcome talks I have ever heard. It helped me immensely.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.
