I feel badly for the person who has to start remodeling the Ogden Temple. Where do you even begin?

Why are they screwing around with the tabernacle?
I've already been flambeed for my comments about building a temple in Payson. My feelings are similar here.
I don't get these complete remodels of temples in the current economic situation.
Maybe the church is actually hoping that it will provide work for people.
Regardless, I don't know why they are going to take the steeple off the Tabernacle. It looks frickin' ridiculous without a steeple. Gah.

How is that even relevant? Last time I checked, St. George's temple didn't look like a cupcake wrapper.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostRight. Provo is way more materialistic than St. George.
Nevertheless, to confirm your irrelevant point, the St. George temple had an exterior makeover in 1878, just one year after its dedication. It also had and an interior makeover in 1975. In other words, St. George is way ahead of Provo in materialism.

I'm not talking about the temple. Neither were you. The keeping up with the Jensens line seemed directed at the materialism of Provoans. I contend that St. George is one of the most materialistic places I've ever been.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostHow is that even relevant? not quite related to your ongoing discussion with whatshappeningman, but is there any truth to the rumor that the provo temple design is symbolic of the ol' cloud by day/pillar by night?Originally posted by Donuthole View PostHow is that even relevant? I must admit, for SoCal roadtrippers, the Provo temple is iconic. You always know that you are close when you see that temple spire lit at night. You can see it from very far away. Another way to know you are close is when you hit Spanish Fork and see that freight train on the tracks just West of the freeway....it is about 500 cars long, is covered in graffiti, and never seems to ever move anywhere.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Personally, I like the Provo temple. They used to have this carpet that was Caribbean blue on one of the floors that was just beautiful. They took it out sometime in the late 90's.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Postnot quite related to your ongoing discussion with whatshappeningman, but is there any truth to the rumor that the provo temple design is symbolic of the ol' cloud by day/pillar by night?

I delivered pizza to the Provo temple once. No lie. It went to the loading dock and they took it inside."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

I agree with you Robin, it would be a loss if they were to renovate all of them. I don't think the architects see it in the same light, unfortunately. It is unlikely the Provo temple will be renovated beyond what they've done to it, because of the . The interior renovation was done quite nicely though.Originally posted by RobinFinderson View PostWhatever people think of the look of the Provo-style temples, they represent an interesting investment in architectural design. On a related note, other than the early abandoned temples, are there any cases where temples were decommissioned?

I always get a kick out of this temple. For whatever reason, the Mexico temple was made to look like an Aztec temple. Because, you know, Mexicans wants their buildings to look like aztec temples.

Quit using Bloomington as a basis for evaluating St. George. It's the equivalent of using Huntersville as a basis for evaluating Charlotte.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostI'm not talking about the temple. Neither were you. In a story during the evening news, Ogden's mayor says he hopes the redesigned temple will increase wedding traffic. And that raises a good point; who wants to have their wedding at the spaceship when the Bountiful and Salt Lake temples are nearby? Currently Ogden must primarily receive the leftovers of those who are bursting at the loins and unwilling to wait.

From what i understand, it is mainly those who want a temple sealing with little fanfare, and probably won't take many pictures. Even the eager "first timers" usually find their way to Logan or Bountiful.Originally posted by Fiyero View PostIn a story during the evening news, Ogden's mayor says he hopes the redesigned temple will increase wedding traffic. I asked the Provo Temple matron one time how often people got married there, and she said about "once a week." Apparently, if you want red-carpet service, you go to Provo. She said, "We take extra-special good care of people who choose us.""Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. My son just got married in the Albuquerque Temple. His was the only wedding at the temple last Friday and it was a very special occasion. I contrast it to my eldest daughter's wedding in the Salt Lake Temple some years ago. Hers was the 77th wedding that day, the sealer was cranky and yelling at my daughter because my mother in law was late (my mother in law left her recommend at home and had to turn around to get it). The sealer also made several strange comments during the wedding, such as, "make sure your husband never grows facial hair" and "as a husband you need to buy your spouse a washing machine" (I'm not kidding here). My second daughter got married at the Timpanogas temple and it was pretty much a zoo there too. So my last three kids have been married in Albuquerque and each one was special. It helps that their marriages have been sealed by friends of mine; sealers we know and love.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostI asked the Provo Temple matron one time how often people got married there, and she said about "once a week."
