I ordered the dinner for 4 for the end of next week. So now I guess I have to go post in the dinner thread.

Yes, indeed it did close in 2016. There is a "branch" inside Madison Square Garden but that's not really the same thing. I believe Katz is the last of the big famous New York delis. There are some other delis that have been around since the 60s and 70s but Katz has been operating for over 100 years. Carnegie Deli operated for almost 80 years before it closed.
Well I guess that makes the decision for me. I'll be out there in August most likely.

    Reading comprehension fail.

But as a follow-up, TOTG closed in 2009 and reopened with new owners and renovation in 2014 in the same building. I wonder if it's any good.

Well I've never been there, so I can't give you a good recommendation. I just came across this place more or less randomly. I've got a close friend who served a mission in NYC and he said this is his favorite place to eat after Tavern On The Green closed. I just looked up TOTG and maybe they reopened. I'll have to check with him what the scoop is.

I prefer the skinny fries. Not a fan of the starchy texture or flavor of fatter fries.

    Those are decent fries.

Freddy's fries are too skinny. I prefer a more substantial fry. This Idaho boy wants to taste the potato!

With the jalapeño fry sauce. That’s the good stuff.

INO fries suck. I don't order them because I don't eat them.
