I heard based on the list of guest stars in this week's episode, we will see the following:

    Desmond, Penny, Charlie!, Eloise Hawking

I wasn't challenging the idea, just wondering what the logic behind the theory was.

I'm still trying to make sense of tonight's episode, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Desmond-Widmore storyline has always been the most interesting one to me.

The producers said that after any Desmond-centric epsiode the conversation changes and last night's episode was no different. Very interesting twist.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

So, it looks like the theory is at least half right because on-island Desmond appears to be at the very least aware of the "other option" I guess we'll call it.

It also appears that in this other reality, at least Eloise knows what happened...

Agree. What I prefer (at least to keep my theories in tact) is that the experiences in the other timeline have effect but remain buried in the subconscious which we've seen with Jack, Ben, etc. Desmond is special, so I can see the rules bending a little with him.

Great episode. I'm a sucker for romance and the Desmond-Penny story is about as good as it gets. I'm so in love with LOST right now. This is the most I've ever enjoyed any TV.

In ep. 1 of this final season, I'm pretty sure I remember reading that Desmond was wearing a wedding ring on the new Oceanic 815 flight while he was chatting with Jack. Yet, in last night's flash-sideways he didn't even know Penny. That had to have been deliberate right? Were they showing us that the flash-sideways timeline has changed too?

Interesting. If so, yeah I'm sure it would have been deliberate. I'll have to check out the LOST blogs on that. I'm sure they're talking about the wedding ring if that's true. Hmmm. Not sure what to think about that.

I'm glad the LOST writers recognize which episode was far and away the best (The Constant) and are trying their damnedest to wrap up the series on that note.

Yes, the Desmond absence has been very noticeable and I started to worry his role would be diminished.

Frankly, I'm so confused by all the flash forwards, backs. sideways, etc. that I've been tempted to bail on the show. But the production values are so high and elements of the story are so good that I struggle on. One thing I enjoy are the little cookies the writers scatter around to amuse only portions of their viewing audience. For example, the bunny in the lab last night was referred to, only once and then quickly, as "Angstrom." This was an obvious tribute to the recently deceased John Updike whose main character in his Rabbit, Run series of novels was Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom.

I love the Desmond/Penny storyline but the flash forwards, sideways, reality, throw Desmond into a wood box to fry him is weird.

He really sells that roll well. I'd say that Desmond and Ben are the two best acted characters on the show.

For me, Ben is by far the best acted role. Desmond has been good, too. Really the acting (IMHO) is tight across the whole cast. The guy that plays Locke is nailing his role this year as the new bad guy. Completely different airs about him.
