I haven't been reading the posts in this thread. I'm about, oh, 5 and a half years late to coming around to Lost. Now I've started streaming it from Netflix. I've watched Season 1 and am about 5 episodes into Season 2.

I'm not sure how this show could maintain an audience for the long term with all of the cliffhangers and unanswered questions. I would have given up on this show pretty quickly without the instant gratification provided by Netflix. I always planned on watching Lost, but I always heard that it was at times extremely frustrating. With that said, the biggest drawback to Lost is negated by being able to view the episodes instantly.

Netflix has all five seasons available for streaming. This is immensely cool. I will be DVRing the current season and will be watching them altogether after I'm done with the first five seasons.

BTW, the most underrated and underdiscussed thing from this past decade was how awesome TV was. Maybe it was the Sopranos that kicked off the whole serial format, but someone finally figured out that the format allows for the extensive character development and drama that movies just can't provide. I suppose some shows figured it before this past decade but not to this extent.

What decade can compete with this list of shows (in no particular order and not including any comedies):

Agreed, and I would add Band of Brothers to that list. The Sopranos is still perhaps my favorite TV show of all time, and a lot of the reason is the impact it has had on TV. I enjoy procedurals, but they are safe and therefore can never reach the heights a serial drama can.

At some point during this decade, someone will figure out that you can sell a serial TV show directly to audiences and they will be willing to pay up to $3 per episode. I would imagine that this would offer more money to the show then, say, HBO. How much do you think HBO paid per episode of the Sopranos? I you get a following of 10 million households (domestic alone) and they pay $3 per episode, you'd have to think raking in $30 million per episode would be pretty nice.

It wouldn't surprise me if more shows go to a ppv basis in order to get in with the pirate community. If pirating ever gets regulated, there will be a lot of people that are used to instant access to just about everything ever made suddenly on the market. Forcing them to suddenly deal with physical media and scheduled programming will not be the way to go. Sites like hulu and netflix that stream stuff for cheap or free with limited commercials should do well. Companies that charge 40 dollars for a film on physical media will not.

I'm one of the biggest LOST fans here, and I'm stoked about the season opener.

I rewatched the finale, and watched one of the preview/summary type shows, but I feel lost about LOST. It's been too long and there's so much going on I forget.

So Juliet set off the event or she stopped the event from happening? Did she set off the hydrogen bomb or did she set off an EMP? What do we think will be the outcome of that?

Is the consensus that that was not really Locke with Ben and Jacob at the end? And it was really the smoke monster?

Jacob and enemy/nemesis conversation was obviously very important and the imagery of Jacob wearing white while enemy wearing black was pretty obvious as well.

The conversation:

JACOB: I take it you're here because of the ship.
ENEMY: I am. How did they find the Island?
JACOB: You'll have to ask them when they get here.
ENEMY: I don't have to ask. You brought them here. Still trying to prove me wrong, aren't you?
JACOB: You are wrong.
ENEMY: Am I? They come. They fight. They destroy. They corrupt. It always ends the same.
JACOB: It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress.

That makes me think the enemy is the same person who was impersonating Locke who could very well be the smoke monster.

What is going on with Desmond/Penny? At one point one of the LOST writers said the whole thing was was Desmond/Penny love story and we will see that in the end. Where did we leave them off?

Do we expect to see Faraday again? Tragic that his mother killed him. Is that going to be resolved somehow?

So the Locke that went with Ben to kill Jacob was present time, right? Where is dead body Locke and what time and who has him and what's up with them, I forget what they're doing?

Anything else I should refresh on?

I'm in the same boat with not remembering all the convolutions. I'll watch this season to see how it ends but am not overly stoked about it. If it turns out that all of this nonsense was building to an actual reveal or at least a decent wrapup I might watch it all again eventually.

Speculation:

I believe the enemy can appear as others as long as he has something of theirs(?) That's how Jack was seeing his dad, Kate saw the horse(?) how Hurley saw Charlie (?) and why Locke's body had to come back to the island(?) in order for the enemy to work the loophole.

BTW, after cruising through the entire 1st season of Lost in about a week and a half, I'm beginning to understand DDD's aversion to clown mouth. Evangeline Lilly is at first pretty cute. Then over the course of the season, I realize she has a gymnast's body and wonder whether she has the ability to breathe through her nose.



BTW, the actress playing the Korean girl has definitely grown on me.

The interesting thing about Evangeline Lilly is that she's 5'5 which is pretty average for a woman. Her body type makes her look like 4'11. Sawyer and Jack must be tall because they seem to dwarf her.

I'll take Kate anyway I can get her. If Island Kate is the example of how she looks after months on a desert island with nothing to work with, then I'm not complaining.
