The Last Jedi was a huge steaming pile of shit. Telling people that it "went over their head" is some nuancy craft beer bullshit. A bad movie is a bad movie. I've watched it a half dozen times now trying to figure out how some people got a huge boner for it...and it just sucks.

On another note, the Mandalorian season finale was tasty- directed by Taiks Waititi and full of prequel easter eggs and a stark throwback to Rebels material. Gus Fring is fantastic as Moff Gideon- glad he’s back next season. They knocked this season out of the park.

When critics approve and the audience doesn't, wokeness is one component that could be a factor. Star Wars is at its best when playing to the large mythological substructure as the main driver of the story with social commentary naturally woven in. When the social commentary takes the driver's seat, the audience notices--because the story suffers. The critics however, see the woke narrative as a positive.
